Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Unity Technologies Full time 120,000 - 150,000 per year

The opportunity

We are seeking a senior-level Product Designer to lead and shape workflows and UX of graphics and lighting in the Unity Engine. This role is ideal for an experienced designer with a deep background as a Technical Artist, Tools Designer, User Experience Designer, or Product Designer. As staff product designer you will operate as a thought leader, driving strategic design initiatives and setting the vision for the workflows and tools used by creators in the real-time 3D industry.

In this role, you will define and deliver innovative solutions for workflows in areas such as Lighting, Post-Processing, Visual Effects, and more. By leveraging your expertise, you will simplify complex workflows, better usability based on user needs, and provide a seamless experience for millions of users between the graphics area and the rest of the editor. You will act as a key contributor and collaborator across engineering, product management, and business teams, ensuring that Unity remains the platform of choice for creators worldwide.

This position demands not just strong design skills but also the ability to influence, mentor, and guide teams toward a shared vision. You will be responsible for solving highly complex design challenges, building scalable systems, and setting the bar for design excellence across Unity's graphics ecosystem.

What you'll be doing

  • Act as the design visionary for the Lighting and Graphics area, defining strategic opportunities to improve workflows for artists, designers, and developers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to shape the product roadmap, ensuring alignment with user needs and business goals.
  • Design and deliver scalable, intuitive workflows that empower creators to produce high quality, real-time 3D experiences.
  • Conduct advanced design research and synthesize insights to inform long-term product strategies.
  • Drive consistency and design excellence across all graphics-related tools and render pipelines.
  • Produce and iterate on concepts, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs to validate ideas and inform implementation.
  • Serve as a mentor and thought leader for the design team, influencing best practices and raising the bar for design quality across Unity.
  • Act as an advocate for Unity's users, ensuring all solutions are aligned with their creative goals and technical needs.
  • Partner with engineering to define and integrate complex systems, ensuring seamless collaboration across teams and products.

What we're looking for

  • A portfolio of work that demonstrates exceptional design craft for game engine tools, desktop applications, and/or web applications, with a focus on interaction design, workflows, and visual design.
  • Proven experience designing for technical software such as professional desktop software, creative tools, game engines, or productivity tools.
  • Track record of strategic impact in driving design initiatives that have improved user workflows and product success at scale.
  • Strong ability to navigate and simplify complex systems, creating intuitive solutions for technical and non-technical users alike.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to rally stakeholders and drive alignment across functions.
  • Experience leveraging data, research, and user insights to inform design decisions and strategies.
  • Experience leading design initiatives in large-scale or enterprise-level organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior designers and contribute to a culture of design excellence.
