Senior Associate

About the role​

The Green Finance Institute Denmark is looking for a Senior Associate to lead project on nature based flood risk management solutions. 

​

The right candidate will lead this newly established workstream, with a focus on:

• Quantifying the value of nature-based (NBS) flood risk management solutions.
• ​Identifying financial mechanisms to finance NBS over conventional flood risk management solutions.
• Communicate to national and international stakeholders about the findings.

​

This role requires strong project management skills, understanding of the financial sector and available financial instruments, stakeholder management skills, keen attention to detail and an ability to work independently on quantitative tasks. ​

​

A core part of the project is understanding the current financial options of municipal actors, and an ability to co-create new financial instruments. As such financial modelling and product development skills is an asset in the role.

​

The overall aim of the project is to identify and create a business case and investment case for nature-based flood risk management solutions, and to communicate this knowledge to external stakeholders so solutions with biodiversity, climate and social benefits are chosen over conventional high-emitting, nature-degrading solutions.

Established in 2019, the Green Finance Institute (GFI) is at the forefront of shaping how finance can be used to facilitate a real economy transition, by creating the enabling environments and financial solutions needed to accelerate the transition to a net-zero and nature positive economy. ​

T2T is GFI's approach to coordinate the value chain and connect country-level demand with investment supply by aligning policy, development capital, and pipeline development. This rigorous deal-doing approach coupled with a focus on fundability is designed to scale from the outset, focusing on replicable sector and project models that can be applied across regions. No single organization can address every part of the value chain. To accelerate impact across these and other projects, GFI coordinates experts in policy, development finance, structured finance and project development. This approach not only works to create deals, it helps create institutional approaches that can enable these deals to be replicated and scale across priority sectors and geographies. ​

What we offer​

This role will join the Danish office of GFI. We are a growing, ambitious, and collaborative team with a strong focus on real outcome delivery. ​

​

The Danish office has three areas of focus namely the built environment, nature finance and cleantech investments, working at the intersection of finance, policy and industry. ​

Our main office is at the SEB building in Copenhagen, but you will also have access to our community working space at Thoravej 29 where you will have opportunity to learn about the exciting work done by other value driven organisations.​

Your key responsibilities​

​

Lead execution of project delivery plan with specified milestones and touch points including  ​

• On two case studies in Denmark, devising cost-benefit analyses of NBS vs conventional flood risk management together with key collaboration partners (Ramboell, DN, municipalities).
• ​Identify options within current financing system, eg. KommuneKredit mandat to finance NBS solutions.
• Propose and co-create financial instruments that can enable NBS to be more readily financeable.
• Produce technical notes, stakeholder briefs and presentations for Danish and international audiences, with a view to integrate insights in global GFI nature workstream.
• Lead stakeholder engagement with DN, Ramboell, Municipalitites and steering committee.
• Hold workshops, roundtables and create public communication to disseminate insights and advance sector knowledge.

Who we are looking for​

We are seeking a candidate with:​

• Approximately 5 years working experience
• ​Proven, independent project management skills
• Structured approach to product delivery, with keen attention to detail
• An ability to work independently on quantitative tasks
• Strong communication skills
• Proven excellence in stakeholder management
• Strong understanding of financial sector and financial tools
• Preferably strong understanding of NBS, municipal financing options and financial product development
• Knowledge of nature-positive design and experience with nature-impact valuation, ecosystem services or biodiversity assessment is an advantage
• Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and the motivation to keep driving structural change even when facing headwinds
