Core Responsibilities

As Senior Sustainable Packaging Engineer (internal title: Senior Packaging Material Engineer) you will be responsible for evaluating and improving fiber-based packaging materials. This role includes working closely with internal groups and external collaborators to boost sustainability and operational effectiveness, while also promoting innovation and adoption of new fiber-based materials. More specifically you will be:

  • Evaluating new fiber-based packaging materials based on internal standards (e.g., equipment compatibility, sustainability, quality).

  • Functioning as a technical advisor to material suppliers to support sustainable packaging materials and improve performance.

  • Conducting and coordinating physical material testing to confirm the performance of new materials.

  • Working alongside a diverse group of partners, including Corporate Quality, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Engineering, to evaluate the feasibility and scalability of new materials and processes.

  • Collaborating with production teams to ensure the incorporation of new packaging materials into current processes and resolve operational challenges, balancing new packaging with plant capabilities.

  • Monitoring packaging material trends to recommend improvements and innovations in materials, proactively scouting the market to understand future trends.

  • Creating and maintaining detailed specifications for packaging materials.

  • Regularly evaluating existing packaging testing practices, making recommendations for improvements.

  • Maintaining thorough documentation of material information, testing results, and preparing comprehensive reports.

  • Leading deployment and problem-solving initiatives across departments to advance sustainable packaging materials and performance.

  • Leading and performing data analysis to create material insights, applying them in an end-to-end context.

  • Setting technical requirements in collaboration with collaborators in Production, Procurement, Product Development, and external suppliers.

You will join the Sustainable Packaging Department in Billund. Our goal is to drive innovative, efficient, and sustainable packaging solutions fit for the future, while maintaining our top-tier quality and safety standards.

Working alongside a cross-functional R&D team, Procurement, Production, and Sustainability teams, we develop packaging material solutions that contribute the LEGO Group's ambitious sustainability goals.

Do you have what it takes?

We imagine that you have experience working in a production organization, with a focus on packaging engineering or technical packaging roles. Moreover, you have:

  • Advanced knowledge of fiber-based packaging materials and how they interact with production machinery to guarantee the feasibility of new sustainable materials.

  • Proven experience in project planning, material testing, material specifications, supplier engagement, and collaboration with cross-functional partners.

  • Proactive and independent problem-solving skills, capable of establishing new processes and delivering results beyond existing procedures.

  • Ability to collaborate across teams, proactively involving partners and resources with relevant competencies.

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication.

  • Contributed to building capabilities and sharing knowledge within the organization.

  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
