The Department of Biological Chemical Engineering, Aarhus University, invites applicants for a 24 month research assistant or postdoc position within the field of Carbon Capture and Utilizationfocused onthe conversion of CO2 to methane.
The deadline for the application is December 8, 2025. The 24 month position is available from January 1, 2026 or as soon as possible hereafter.
The research project
Are you an innovative engineer with a passion for translating groundbreaking science into real-world applications? We are seeking talented and driven engineers within Biotech-, Chemical-, Mechanical- or Electrical Engineering to join our dynamic university research team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of academia and industry, focusing on the industrial maturation of cutting-edge technologies.
You will be part of the Power-to-X project E-CH4 Booster, which targets the development and upscaling of bioreactors for conversion of CO2 into green methane. The project is an industrial research project which includes Aarhus University along with different industrial partners. You will therefore be a member of a team that consists of both academic and industrial scientists, engineers, and technicians, all unified in transforming cutting-edge science into industrial value. As member of the Aarhus University team, you will be a key player in a collaborative environment with strong ties to our industrial partners, ensuring that our research findings are effectively scaled and deployed.
We are looking for 1-2 candidates that can assist and lead different tasks within the project.
Possible tasks include modelling and/or operating bioreactors for conversion of H2 and CO2 to e-methane. A background within microbial catalysis, gas-liquid mass transfer principles, process modelling, or process engineering is therefore an advantage.
Your profile
The ideal candidate holds a Master's or PhD in Biological-, Chemical-, Process-, or Mechanical engineering, or a related field. The ideal candidate has experience with two or more of the following points.
- Reactor operation (lab- or pilot-scale)
- Operation and maintenance of control systems and sensors
- Proficiency in process modelling and simulation software (e.g., COMSOL, Aspen Plus, MATLAB).
- Gas chromatography and other analytical methods
- Energy and mass balances
- Excellence in both written and spoken English
You will be working in the research group "Microbial Conversion Technologies" as part of the Dept. of Biological & Chemical Engineering. As a group member you will be expected to be a team player, where you contribute to student co-supervision, teaching and day-to-day work of the group.
