Are you looking for an exciting internship opportunity with one of the world's largest NGOs? Then you might be our new intern starting in January 2026 Join us on our exciting mission to strengthen the newly established Shelter & Settlements, WASH and Infrastructure Sector at DRC globally. You will engage with technical professionals across the organization and around the world, gaining valuable insight into DRC's work for people affected by displacement.

Who are we?

The Shelter & Settlements, WASH and Infrastructure Team is a newly established global team at DRC, bringing together these three technical areas for the first time.

We deliver integrated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Shelter, and Infrastructure programming to respond to the immediate and long-term needs of displacement-affected populations. As crises become increasingly complex and protracted—exacerbated by climate shocks, conflict, and urbanization—ensuring access to safe shelter, water, sanitation, and basic infrastructure has never been more critical.

DRC's approach goes beyond emergency relief to ensure dignified, sustainable access to essential services throughout the displacement cycle. We support the development of risk-informed, inclusive, and climate-resilient settlements that reduce protection risks (such as gender-based violence and disease outbreaks), prevent secondary displacement, and enable long-term recovery. From emergency WASH access and shelter assistance to climate-adaptive infrastructure and sustainable settlement planning, DRC's work promotes dignity, safety, and resilience for displaced communities.

The team provides strategic, technical, and operational support to DRC's global operations and builds staff and partner capacity in these areas. We ensure timely, relevant, and high-quality delivery of assistance, foster coherence in technical approaches, enable cross-country learning, and promote innovation and strategic partnerships.

We work closely with DRC's Global Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Division, focusing on evidence generation, analysis, documentation, and dissemination. Together, we aim to build a robust evidence base for our Shelter & Settlements, WASH and Infrastructure programming—learning from field operations about what has the greatest positive impact on people affected by displacement.

About the internship

The overall objective of this internship is to assist our global team with enhanced knowledge management for the newly established core DRC sector. The specific tasks include:

  • Support with the design and development of the Insight intranet platform with relevant maps, tools, and resources to make sector information more accessible across DRC.
  • Collecting and analyzing data from country offices to support baseline studies, surveys, and the development of the Global Sector Strategy (2026–2030), aligned with DRC's Theory of Change and Response Framework.
  • Assisting in the planning and delivery of internal webinars to showcase sector achievements, enhance visibility, and support global knowledge exchange.
  • Contributing to the development of communications and fundraising materials, including case studies that highlight key programs and both emergency and long-term interventions.
  • Supporting coordination activities, minute-taking, and maintenance of internal knowledge-sharing platforms (MS Teams, Facebook Workplace, WhatsApp, etc.) for the newly established Global Community of Practice.
  • Assisting with research and learning initiatives as required.

We offer flexibility in the type of tasks, so you also have the possibility to influence the tasks, subject to what is relevant for your study program.
