Would you like to contribute to the accomplishment of the “Vision Zero” EU goal to significantly reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries on European roads?
Would you like to contribute to the accomplishment of the “Vision Zero” EU goal to significantly reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries on European roads?

Are you energized by the opportunity to design future AI-based diagnostic and prognostic systems to facilitate the holistic monitoring of urban and rural road infrastructures?

Would you like to establish yourself as a key scientist in predictive maintenance and be part of an internationally leading research group in condition monitoring?

Then look no further because the opportunity to fulfill your professional ambitions stands right in front of you.

Building on three decades of research on fault diagnosis and condition monitoring for safety critical systems, DTU Electro will break new ground on predictive maintenance of road infrastructure by pursuing the development, testing and experimental verification of multimodal diagnostic and prognostic systems in collaboration with leading European academic and industrial partners, as part of the Horizon Europe EvoRoads project.

As postdoc in Predictive Maintenance of Road Infrastructure you will have a pivotal role in the core research activities of EvoRoads WP2 and WP3, and you will contribute to consolidating DTU Electro’s international leadership on diagnosis and prognosis of safety critical systems.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to strengthen DTU Electro expertise in prognostics and multi-objective optimization for the development of predictive maintenance strategies. You will work closely with members of the Horizon Europe EvoRoads project, and with both academic and industrial partners across several European countries. EvoRoads aims to accelerate the attainment of the “Vision Zero” EU goal through a holistic framework of innovative models, tools and services that enable data-driven evolution of safety assessment frameworks, facilitate dynamic monitoring of cyber-physical infrastructures and promote the proactive warning for safety risks in complex environments.

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Perform internationally relevant research in prognostics and multi-objective optimization towards the development of predictive maintenance strategies for the road infrastructure
  • Analyse large volume of multimodal data (from legacy systems and novel sensor and information systems) to instruct and support the research process
  • Develop, implement and test anomaly detection methods to continuously monitor the condition of the infrastructure and detect and isolate area of interest as affected by road distress elements
  • Develop, implement and test methods and tools to predict the future state of the infrastructure, performs a segmentation of the road based on condition, and evaluate and assign an asset degradation risk to each segment
  • Develop, implement and test methods for asset management plan optimisation that outputs an optimal maintenance plan to improve the availability and reliability of the infrastructure
  • Coordinate the preparation of scientific publications towards ISI journals and highly ranked international conferences
  • Share findings of your research with qualified professional audiences
  • Supervise BSc and MSc projects within areas relevant to the project

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), or you are about to submit your PhD thesis at the time of application (a clear indication of the submission date must be given).

You should meet the following qualifications:

  • You have a documented track record in two or more of the listed subjects: fault diagnosis and prognosis, constraint dynamic optimization, estimation theory, machine learning, data analysis
  • You have a solid expertise in scientific computing within development environments such as Matlab and/or Python
  • You have experience in preparing and performing experimental campaigns
  • You are a committed team-oriented person, who can proactively initiate research actions and enthusiastically engage with internal and external stakeholders
