We are looking for a Legal Director who will provide legal and compliance advice and support in relation to a range of matters affecting FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies Denmark ApS (FDBD) and support to FDB global wider legal and compliance team.

As the Legal Director you will lead the FDBD Legal Team reporting to the General Counsel. You will assist the General Counsel with the direction of legal matters for FDB, both independently and in collaboration with their counterpart(s) in the UK and US and the legal teams at FUJIFILM Holdings America Corporation and FUJIFILM Europe regional headquarters.

The role

As the Legal Director at FDBD, you will play a pivotal role in providing strategic legal counsel, overseeing commercial agreements, managing risk, ensuring compliance, and supporting various business functions.

Your primary tasks will be:

Commercial and Program Management support: Ability to lead the legal review, drafting and negotiation of all types of business as usual commercial agreements including those relating to strategic and high profile customer collaborations work with FDB’s patent agent on matters of IP; and identify and advise on associated commercial and Quality issues arising out of commercial agreements; in each case identifying the need for assistance from, and managing, expert assistance when required. Legal Director will be able to act independently with escalation of issues to the General Counsel and senior management when required.

Risk Management: Ability to identify legal and business risk (in the legal context) and develop strategies and solutions to enable the business to resolve and/or mitigate those risks.

Management briefing: Ability to brief, and advise, senior management on legal issues.

Precedent documentation: Maintaining/growing the existing bank of precedent legal documents for use in the business and be able to provide training to the business on use of those documents.

Compliance: Assisting General Counsel with compliance issues and roll out of compliance policy and training.

Policy and Guidance: Assisting General Counsel with the implementation of business policies and guidance; legal projects and roll out of associated legal training/mentoring to the business and binge accountable for policy review and generation.

Ancillary legal support: Providing support to business functions such as HR, EHS and Capital Projects including identifying the need for assistance from, and managing, expert assistance when required.

FDB Affiliates: Ability to work with US/European FUJIFILM Legal Department and Compliance Team colleagues supporting FDB Europe’s sister companies to help achieve the FDB group corporate objectives. Legal Director will work hand in hand with their counterparts(s) in the UK and US.

Know-how: Knowledge of Danish law and relevant legal practice (including the ability to identify potential issues in other legal jurisdictions); be able to interpret new and revised Danish legislation and provide appropriate and accessible guidance

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in team management, negotiation, compliance projects, legal training, and expertise in areas such as biologics, intellectual property, and capital projects.

The Legal Director is required to develop an intimate and detailed knowledge of the Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies Group business practices, processes and commercial drivers in order to effect maximal legal advice and risk resolution and mitigation.

  • Qualified Solicitor, Attorney, Barrister, or Graduate of an accredited law school
  • +12 years of post-qualification experience, including exposure to a wide range of legal and compliance work
  • Experience negotiating strategic contracts and leading compliance projects
  • Expert and specialist knowledge is required of CDMO legal practices
  • Track record of developing and implementing legal training programs.
  • Expertise in biologics, intellectual property, or supporting capital projects is highly desirable
  • Solid team management experience with strong team management skills and solid experience in leading legal teams
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to act with autonomy, objectivity, and independence while balancing legal advice with business objectives.
  • Willingness to travel for face-to-face meetings as required
