Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Seaborg ApS Full time
LEAD AND SUPPORT GROUND-BREAKING MOLTEN SALT EXPERIMENTAL CAMPAIGNS

Do you become energized by doing something out of the ordinary and do you see yourself thrive in a start-up environment? Do you like using your skills to design and complete new and innovative experiments to generate state of the art data needed to design a complex nuclear reactor? Then you might be the one we are looking for

At Seaborg Technologies we are developing a nuclear power plant concept fundamentally different from what exists today. By bringing to market an advanced and innovative molten salt reactor technology we are making nuclear an inexpensive, sustainable, and safe technology that can out-compete fossil fuels and revolutionise energy markets. The opportunity to make an impact on climate change and provide millions of people with cheap and accessible energy is what motivates all of us every day.

Creating an innovation that can impact the world isn't easy and it requires a truly diverse group of people with the best of what humanity can offer. We know that we cannot do this alone, so we work closely with regulators, shipyards, academic institutions, and the nuclear industry all over the world to develop and identify needed technologies and materials so we can produce an advanced floating nuclear power plant.

This is your chance to become part of a collaborative research environment where you can chart an uncommonly diverse career and help change the world.

The start-up environment allows for great influence, the possibility to take on responsibility and grow but also demands flexibility.

THE ROLE

The Corrosion Specialist is responsible for leading and supporting the execution of experimental campaigns focusing on understanding the interactions of materials with molten salts in both static and dynamic environments. The knowledge gained is used to support materials selection and specification, verify design requirements, determine the parameters that will prevent excessive corrosion within reactor components, and develop corrosion control instrumentation in our small-scale pilot set-ups. As Corrosion Specialist, you will play a key role in identifying corrosion mechanisms in alloys and determining corrosion kinetics using various techniques, such as immersion tests and electrochemical measurements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

Plan, manage and execute experimental corrosion campaigns to verify molten salt behaviour, analyse the generated data, and determine parameters that result in favourable corrosion performance of materials.
Perform materials screening and behaviour assessment in both static and dynamic molten salt environments using electrochemical methods.
Develop and establish suitable methods, tools, and routines for molten salt chemistry corrosion experiments that conform with relevant standards and ensure data validation.
Support the development of instrumentation and control systems for monitoring and controlling the chemical and physical properties of molten salts in a dynamic environment.
Keep informed of global developments in molten salt chemistry, attend workshops and webinars if required and establish and support collaborations with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders from initial research to early concepts.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

You have a Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or similar education.
You have 2-4 years of industrial experience with experimental project work in an R&D organisation.
You can identify, analyse, and solve complex problems related to corrosion.
You have experience with immersion and electrochemical corrosion testing (e.g., potentiodynamic and potentiostatic testing, EIS, EFM, etc.).
You have experience in developing experimental methods using electrochemistry.
You have experience in using SEM, and other related analytical methods.
You can manage projects effectively, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
Experience with molten salt chemistry is an advantage.
Experience with radiochemistry is an advantage.

PERSONAL COMPETENCES

You effectively collaborate with lab technicians, specialists, and engineers to solve technical and operational challenges.
You have a high sense of responsibility and accountability.
You have good organisational and time-management skills and can handle multiple tasks in parallel.
You are skilled in short- and long-term planning of experimental campaigns.
You are dedicated and used to producing quality work of the highest standard and reproducibility.
You are willing to learn, teach and work in a young, rapidly developing team.

WHAT WE OFFER

The chance to work on ground-breaking technology that will impact the global energy landscape.
Working closely with globally acknowledged experts in the field.
An international and diverse team.
Personal and professional development opportunities and support.
Informal and flexible work environment.

WANT TO JOIN THE TEAM?

Please submit a motivational letter and CV in English by 26 May 2024. As we strive to have a neutral hiring process, please do not add a picture to your CV. We look forward to reading your application.
