Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Pleo Technologies Full time

At our core, we believe in the magic that happens when diverse minds come together. We're on the search for an experienced Data Engineering Manager who will be a multiplier for our data engineers, helping them to achieve their full potential. You'll also enjoy helping data platform teams to be more productive, unblocking them and iterating on ways of working to continually improve things.

Your mission is to mentor and guide our data engineering team to build robust, scalable systems that can dance to the beat of big data without missing a step.

You will foster the environment in which engineers perform at their best and grow both as individuals and as a team. You do so by making sure each team member is clear on what we expect and how they can grow, by making sure our processes are helping rather than standing in the way, and by working with all engineers ensuring we are building high-quality software.

Your leadership style:

We always say that we hire anyone who we would want to be our boss, irrespective of the role they're in (from Customer Support student workers to co-founders). That should be the feeling we're left with when any of us speak to you.
We are looking for someone who cares deeply about individuals as human beings - we focus on authentic leadership and are actively trying to develop ourselves in this space.
We hope that you will be able to show vulnerability, radical transparency, and a listening ear to those around you.
We truly believe that with this type of style you and your team will set an incredible path forward - and that path will get us to incredible places. We want an engineering manager whose team will be standing on the top of the mountain with them - celebrating together and not left behind exhausted on the path below.
We want you to help your team through the journey of becoming high-performing, building trust among the members in the team, and helping them fine-tune their processes.

You will thrive in this role if you:
Have a passion for people management. You work to see your team and individuals growing and shipping great software
You like to work with cross-functional teams and other stakeholders to align data engineering with business direction and goals. You think like a technologist in the core and optimize for both customers and the business.
Enjoy design and optimization of teams and processes to maximize their efficiency. You are comfortable stepping into technical discussions or taking important stakeholder meetings to remove roadblocks allowing the team to move forward.
You are a strong communicator, with both technical and commercial stakeholders.
You're a technologist at heart, but enjoy working in multi-disciplinary teams.
You are enthusiastic about advancements in data and AI, tools and technologies that can bring substantial impact to a business.
You like enabling data platforms and collaborative ways of working with other teams, making sure the tools and infrastructure meet the organisation's needs effectively in scalability, reliability, availability, security and compliance both with your team and through others.
You enjoy coaching others in working collaboratively other other engineers, data analytics and data scientists to help augment the impact of the data platform.

What this Role entails:
Directly manage 8-12 Data engineers.
Coach the team in working collaboratively with other engineers and data experts to grow platform adoption
Drive a (internal) user-centric & solution-oriented mindset.
Continuously improve the environment and processes to support the data platform growth, maturity and compliance with best practices together with the team and other Data & Analytics leaders
Create and steer the data platform strategy with the team in alignment with wider business, product, tech and data strategies
Represent Data Engineering in key initiatives and projects within the department or across the company and ensure they get delivered.
Design the organization, and objectives and hold a high standard in people, delivery, and technology.
Continue and extend the investment we have already made in AWS, GCP, dbt, BigQuery, Looker, etc.

Persona

Why join us?

Working at Pleo means you're working on something very exciting: the future of work. Our mission is to help every company go beyond the books. Pleo itself means 'more than you'd expect', and it's been the secret to our success over the last 8 years. So it's only fitting that we'd pass this philosophy onto our customers to help them make the most of their finances.

We think company spending should be delegated to all employees and teams, that it should be as automated as possible, and that it should drive a culture of responsible spending. Finance teams shouldn't be siloed from the rest of the organisation – they should work in unity with marketing, sales, IT and everyone else.

Speaking of working in unity, our values tell the story of how we work at Pleo. We have four core values, the first of which is 'champion the customer', which means we address real pain points that businesses face. Next up is 'succeed as a team', which highlights how our strength lies in our diversity and trust in each other. We also 'make it happen' by taking bold decisions and following through to deliver results. Last but not least, we 'build to scale', creating lasting solutions that address today's challenges and anticipate tomorrow's needs.

So, in a nutshell, that's Pleo. Today we are a 850+ team, from over 100 nations, sitting in our Copenhagen HQ, London, Stockholm, Berlin, Madrid, Montreal and Lisbon offices —and quite a few full-time remotes in 35 other countries Being HQ'd out of Copenhagen means we're inspired by things like a good work-life balance. If you don't work in the office with us, we'll help you set up the best remote setup possible and make sure you still have time to connect with your team.
