Principal Engineer, Cloud Cost Management

Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark The LEGO Group Full time

Job Overview

We are on the lookout for a creative and experienced Senior Cloud Financial Operations Engineer to become a vital part of our engineering team at The LEGO Group. This role focuses on enhancing our FinOps capabilities, enabling our engineers to optimize cloud resource usage from initial design through to operational phases. Our solutions empower management to make informed, data-driven decisions regarding financial planning and contract management.

Key Responsibilities

The Cloud FinOps team plays a crucial role in supporting various teams within our digital organization. The Senior Engineer will engage extensively with product teams to promote responsible cloud usage through FinOps governance, methodologies, and tools.

  • Develop and sustain our comprehensive cost management solution within The LEGO Group's data ecosystem, facilitating integrations with both cloud and on-premises data sources, and delivering insights to PowerBI and product teams.
  • Design, implement, and oversee data pipelines for Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) reporting, optimization suggestions, and performance forecasting.
  • Champion FinOps practices throughout the organization, collaborating with team members to provide technical guidance on application rightsizing, re-architecting, and modernization.
  • Contribute to the FinOps strategic roadmap, enhancing our products, services, and processes to achieve a more efficient cloud environment.
Your Contribution to Team Success

The FinOps team is integral to The LEGO Group, delivering foundational capabilities that benefit the entire organization.

We aim to bridge the gap between engineering and finance in an environment where costs are based on consumption, shifting the responsibility for these costs to the engineers who provision resources and make architectural decisions. Our mission is to provide a unified Cost Management solution that calculates TCO for each product team, offering essential insights tailored to various roles, including management, finance, procurement, and engineering. We also advocate for a FinOps culture as part of our DevOps practices, working closely with engineering teams to realize this vision.

As we reach a pivotal moment in our cloud journey, having achieved significant savings, we are tasked with integrating on-premises cost management in a similar manner. This initiative has prompted us to leverage The LEGO Group's data platform to develop a scalable and robust solution suitable for enterprise-wide service.

Our team is diverse and international, with English as our working language, and we employ Agile methodologies in our projects.

Are You the Right Fit?

We seek candidates with a solid background in AWS and/or Azure cloud infrastructure design and cost optimization, along with several years of experience in cloud infrastructure and strong collaboration skills.

To excel in this position, you should possess experience in designing, developing, and maintaining ETL pipelines for large datasets. Proficiency in creating self-service APIs using Python/Spark for automation or orchestration is also desired. Familiarity with cloud cost reporting tools (e.g., Apptio, AWS/Azure Cost Explorer) and Cost Usage Report files is advantageous, along with knowledge of AWS China and cross-border cost reporting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering.
  • Certification as a FinOps practitioner (at least an introduction to FinOps LFS175x).
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner and/or Azure Fundamentals certifications.
  • A background in Cloud, Data Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
  • Experience with Databricks and PowerBI.

Additional Information: Please note that relocation support is not available for this position.
