What You'll Do

The company is seeking an experienced Head of Fermentation to lead their bioprocess development efforts. This role involves managing all fermentation activities, scaling up processes from the lab to commercial production, and overseeing technology transfer between teams and external partners. The position requires expertise in experimental design, data interpretation, and effective communication with senior stakeholders. If you are passionate about sustainable chemical production and excel in technical leadership, project management, and scientific communication, this is an opportunity to join a dynamic team making a significant impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all fermentation team activities, managing a team of four direct reports.
  • Translate overall strategy into specific objectives and tasks.
  • Manage process scale-up from lab to commercial production, ensuring effective technology transfer and sustainable process development.
  • Design and analyze experiments, interpret data, and present results to drive process optimization.
  • Coordinate cross-team collaborations, including interactions with external partners and suppliers.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and contribute to patent filings.

Job Requirements

  • Over 5 years of hands-on industrial fermentation experience.
  • PhD or MSc in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field.
  • Expertise in scaling up fermentation processes from lab to commercial scale.
  • Extensive experience in setting up and running lab-scale fermentations.
  • Proven ability to interpret scientific data and a solid understanding of statistics.
  • Effective communicator skilled at translating scientific data into actionable decisions and engaging with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Open-minded and positive, with a collaborative approach to achieving team results.
  • A sense of urgency and a proactive, results-driven attitude.
