Job Summary:
The Automation Engineer focuses on the successful implementation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance of advanced automation systems, with a primary emphasis on DCS platforms (DeltaV, ABB 800xA, Siemens). Initially contributing to project delivery from design through implementation, the successful candidate will transition into a key role within our maintenance and operational support structure. This position requires a strong technical foundation in automation, an operational mindset, and the drive to develop deep system expertise to ensure the reliability and efficiency of critical systems for AES and our clients in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.

Job Responsibilities:
- Risk Management & System Design: Identify critical risks, define system requirements, and ensure robust, reliable, and maintainable DCS system designs adhering to best practices. Ensure alignment across all integrated process control solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Technical Oversight & Alignment: Govern the automation lifecycle (design, implementation, testing - FAT/SAT), ensuring alignment with project objectives, technical standards, and integration requirements. Contribute to the successful delivery, validation, and ongoing maintenance of process control systems.
- Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication: Engage effectively with stakeholders, partners, and cross-functional automation teams to ensure clear communication, resolve technical challenges, and support cohesive project execution. Develop, review, and approve documentation related to the design, operation, and upkeep of these systems.
- Operational Support & Maintenance: Provide advanced technical support, troubleshooting, and system optimization for operational DCS systems, including participation in 24/7 on-call duties as part of the maintenance team. Following project handover, extend role into ongoing operations by providing coaching and training, implementing continuous improvements, and supporting future projects.
- Leadership & Mentoring: Lead and mentor a team of specialists, working alongside solution architects and automation experts to provide direction and resolve issues effectively. Identify and address gaps in standard operating procedures (SOPs), training, and workforce competencies.
Qualifications:
- Master of Science or Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Science)
- 4+ years of experience with process control systems (e.g., DeltaV, ABB 800xA, Siemens) in an industrial setting; either from operations and maintenance, or from project participation
- Experience within the Pharma industry (GMP experience is a plus) or other regulated industry
- Good knowledge of manufacturing processes and requirements
- Strong ability to communicate in spoken and written English
- Willingness to relocate and/or travel as required by business needs
- Ability to work in a detail-oriented office environment with occasional need to visit operational facilities
