Postdoc in RNA aptamers for precision skin disease targeting

Deadline 18 Apr 2025 23:59 CEST

Expected start 1 Jul 2025

Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Centre, Gustav Wieds Vej 14, 8000 Aarhus C

Fixed term full-time position from 1 Jul 2025 - 30 Jun 2026 ID: 17497

The interdisciplinary Nanoscience center (iNANO) at Aarhus University invites applications for a 1-year postdoc position, with the possibility of an extra year extension. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a research project focused on developing innovative RNA aptamer therapeutics to target skin conditions, with a strong focus on Vitiligo.

Job description

You are expected to contribute to a project focused on developing chemically modified RNAs to target Langerhans cells (LCs) for Vitiligo intervention. This research involves a multifaceted approach, including:

  1. The generation of aptamer-drug conjugates for precise LCs targeting,
  2. The in vitro selection of novel RNA aptamers, and
  3. The assessment of their therapeutic potential in mouse models and human skin samples.

This project is part of an international and interdisciplinary collaboration with scientists working in molecular biology, biomedicine, immunology, and dermatology.

Your profile

Applicants should hold a PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, nanoscience, nanotechnology, or medicinal chemistry and have experience with RNA and/or nucleic acid nanotechnology. Expertise in (RNA) aptamer selection, bioconjugation strategies, immunology, primary cells, and binding/cell assays with a particular focus on FACS will be a major advantage. Experience with tissue samples, cell cultures, and mouse models will be an advantage.

The ideal candidate should be socially oriented, self-driven, and motivated, with strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of an international team. Proficiency in written and spoken English is a requirement for the position.

What we offer
  • Access to a well-equipped research infrastructure and collaborative access to state-of-the-art core facilities.
  • A scientific environment inviting open and critical thinking within and across interdisciplinary research fields, also fostering collaboration with academia and industrial partners.
  • A working environment with teamwork, network activities among young scientists across different faculties at Aarhus University and social activities.
  • A workplace characterised by professionalism, equality and a healthy work-life balance.
Place of work and area of employment

The place of work is the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO), Aarhus University, Gustav Wieds Vej 14, 8000 Aarhus C.

Contact information

Further information about the position may be obtained from Assistant Prof. Julián Valero at jvalero@inano.au.dk. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact for further details about the position.

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications, the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self.

Formalities and salary range

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any).

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on qualification requirements and job content may be found in the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities.
