Consultant - Headhunter - London - Critical Projects - Data Centres

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in the building construction sector. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems for large-scale building projects. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, along with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other building services, for commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments.
  • Work closely with architects, structural engineers, and other design professionals to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems within the building design.
  • Oversee the development of mechanical system specifications, schematics, and detailed design drawings using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
  • Manage and mentor junior engineers and provide guidance in the design process.
  • Perform complex calculations and analysis to ensure mechanical systems meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct energy modeling and sustainability assessments to optimize system efficiency.
  • Review and evaluate submittals, shop drawings, and installation plans to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure the correct implementation of mechanical systems during construction.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor progress and resolve any on-site mechanical design issues.
  • Ensure all designs comply with local, state, and national building codes and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. (Master's is preferred)
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a focus on building construction (critical infrastructure & Data Centre experience is a bonus)
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical system design for commercial and residential buildings, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and energy systems.
  • Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other industry-standard tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of building codes, regulations, and sustainability standards.
  • Experience with energy-efficient and green building design practices is a plus.
