Experienced Specialist for NOx emission certification

Engine Platform Process Development

Are you passionate about driving innovation and contributing to a sustainable future? Then you might be our new colleague in the Engine Process Platform Development department, part of MAN Energy Solutions' R&D organization. At MAN Energy Solutions, we develop propulsion engines and technology solutions for the global maritime fleet that moves approximately 90% of the world's cargo. We are the global market leader of energy-efficient and fuel-flexible large two-stroke marine engines. Our ambition is to "Move big things to zero" and help the world decarbonize by offering state-of-the-art technologies as well as retrofit solutions to upgrade the existing fleet.

You'll play an important role in:
As our NOx Certification Specialist in our Engine Process Platform Development Department, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our innovative solutions for decarbonizing the marine industry align with current and future IMO legislations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work with leading engine technologies, including our low-carbon dual fuel engines enabling the carbon-neutral transition for the maritime industry.
  • Planning, analyzing, and following up on emission surveys to ensure compliance with IMO NOx regulations.
  • Developing and implementing IMO NOx certification concepts for our two-stroke engine portfolio, including retrofit projects and newbuilding projects.
  • Staying updated on current and future IMO legislation to ensure our products remain strategically aligned with regulatory requirements.
  • Leading certification projects from concept to completion, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to internal and external stakeholders.

A typical week will include supporting ongoing projects, both in terms of planning and executing certification-related activities such as developing certification concepts, making guidelines, writing technical reports, and communicating with external stakeholders including licensees, classification societies, flag states, etc.

We have a cross-departmental team for certification tasks, and you will take on a role contributing to these efforts. This group is responsible for the development of certification procedures, the execution of certification-related tasks in the field, and the use and further development of existing calculation and certification tools. You will have the opportunity to shape the direction of the group, leveraging your expertise to influence processes and drive improvements in our certification approach.

Travelling is to be expected in this role, including participation in relevant measurement campaigns on test beds at our licensees, sea trials, and meetings with various stakeholders around the world. Business trips vary from a few days up to 3 weeks and will amount to approximately 60 travel days per year.

You will closely collaborate with other departments and engineering fields, enjoying the freedom to influence your own specialist area.

We imagine that you:
Are a dedicated and curious team player with relevant skills such as:

  • Relevant engineering background or equivalent education specialized within environmental engineering/emission technology, combustion engines, or environmental law.
  • 5-8 years of professional experience in a relevant and reputed organization.
  • Highly organized, with a strong dedication to documentation, reporting, and attention to detail.
  • Strong stakeholder and communication skills in English, verbally as well as in writing.
  • Demonstrate strong technical expertise and proficient technical writing abilities.
  • Possess computational and data evaluation skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure, especially during emission measurement campaigns on test beds or sea trials.
  • Have a positive mindset, enjoying sharing experience and sustaining organizational learning.

Welcome to Engine Platform Process Development department
We are a group consisting of approximately 13 colleagues with various fields of specialization ranging from experts in measurement technologies, engine performance, emissions, and simulations, all working in close collaboration both internally and with other departments in the organization in cross-departmental competence groups. We value personal development and have recently reorganized to become a more scalable organization focusing on empowering our employees and encouraging personal development.

We are end-to-end accountable for the engine performance strategies including optimization of fuel consumption (performance), turbocharging strategies, compliance with emission legislation, as well as development of future retrofit solutions enabling existing vessels to be upgraded with the latest technology.
