The Department of Clinical Medicine at the Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Professor in Mental Health Nursing , effective from 1 May 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is for a duration of five years, with the possibility of renewal.
As a professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, you will be part of what is likely the largest health science research department in Denmark. Our clinical research spans all medical specialties and is conducted in close collaboration with the university hospital and regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. We offer approximately 30,000 square meters of modern research facilities, including resources for experimental surgery and medicine, animal facilities, and advanced scanners. The department oversees the Master's degree programs in Medicine and Molecular Medicine and includes approximately 425 academic employees and an equal number of PhD students collaborating across disciplines. As a professor, your primary place of work will be at Aarhus University Hospital or another hospital within the Central Denmark Region.
Place of WorkYour workplace will be Aarhus University Hospital Psychiatry (AUHP), which comprises four clinical departments, each with an interdisciplinary research unit. Although your primary location is Aarhus, the Department of Clinical Medicine expects you to collaborate broadly, both nationally and internationally, particularly across the Central Denmark Region.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, you will establish and lead your own research group within the field of mental health nursing. Additionally, you will contribute to developing the research environment for nurses and other professionals with bachelor-level qualifications working in psychiatry throughout the Central Denmark Region. AUHP will finance a PhD scholarship in nursing research as part of the professorship.
You will join an established research network at AUHP, which includes:
- 4 Professors/Clinical Professors
- 6 Associate Professors
- 4 Clinical Associate Professors
- 1 Assistant Professor
- 4 Research Nurses (with a PhD-degree)
You are expected to attract external research funding to support the establishment and growth of your research group. The Central Denmark Region offers several internal research funding opportunities that you can apply for as an employee.
Primary tasks include:- Conducting high-quality research, publishing in international journals, and disseminating findings nationally and internationally.
- Building a research group in psychiatric nursing aligned with the research strategies of the Department of Clinical Medicine and AUHP.
- Teaching, supervising, and examining Master's and PhD students.
- Collaborating on research with stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.
- Strengthening the integration of psychiatric nursing research with clinical practice.
At the Department of Clinical Medicine, you will share responsibility for developing the department’s research and teaching environment and contribute to implementing the faculty's overall research strategy. You are expected to lead high-quality international research, uphold a high academic and didactic standard in teaching, and participate in assessment and committee work. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of the faculty’s PhD courses.
With your excellent collaborative skills and broad academic network, you will enhance the academic development at Aarhus University and strengthen the university’s national and international profile.

Your competencesYou have an excellent track record in mental health nursing research, and you have established yourself as a prominent researcher. You possess solid research and teaching qualifications at a high international level. You have broad international cooperative partnerships and great experience of research partnerships with private and public-sector stakeholders. You have also a documented ability to attract significant competitive research funding from national and international funding bodies.
As a person, you are a helpful and motivational leader who inspires other researchers and builds trusting relationships with students, colleagues and partners. As a lecturer you communicate the newest and relevant knowledge in a committed, clear and comprehensible manner. As a supervisor you are competent, inspiring, supportive and responsible.
You are ready to take co-responsibility for the development of the department's research and education at the highest international level and for ensuring that we maintain a good work environment. You naturally involve yourself in interdisciplinary collaboration at departmental, faculty and university level as well as nationally and internationally.
We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges Danish teaching.

Terms of employment- In making the appointment, emphasis will be placed on a high degree of original production at an internal level and experience from teaching at different levels as well as contributions to the development of teaching activities and teaching material, hereby documenting that the applicant has developed the academic discipline from a research and teaching perspective.
- Moreover, there will be an assessment of the applicant’s ability to perform research and teaching management tasks.
- The yearly base salary for a fulltime professor is DKK 797.476,39 (including a position related supplement, a pre-agreed professor supplement and pension (17.1%)). Additional supplement(s) can be negotiated dependent on experience, special qualifications and performance of special functions. Professors have the authority to negotiate pay on their own behalf.
