About the role
We are an integrated transport and logistics provider, operating in Europe and the Mediterranean, offering land-based logistics, passenger transport and goods shipment in more than 20 countries.

We have an ambitious digital strategy and as the Data Domain Architect, you will shape and realize these strategic ambitions by forming a data and information architecture that supports our long-term objectives.
You will work closely with our Data & Strategy Execution tribe to mature the data architecture across the entirety of DFDS.
At DFDS, we have a modern data platform that leverages best-in-class cloud and open-source components to turn concepts into tangible solutions. You will join a tribe with more than 20 skilled data engineers and data scientists who are working every day to derive value from data.
As the Data Domain Architect, you help data owners prioritise initiatives that enable transformative, data driven business cases, including the use of machine learning or generative AI. We believe data is a highly valuable asset, and we are continuously working to unlock its potential. Our data sources range from real-time streaming from digital twins of our ferries and trucks to classic relational data from business applications and ERP systems.
The Data Architect will report to the Head of Architecture and join a team of highly skilled architects covering enterprise, cloud, and security architecture across DFDS.
We believe that architects should enable people at all levels to take the right decisions by helping them see the bigger picture, especially when complexity is high and there are many stakeholders involved.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with senior business stakeholders and chief product owners to define data requirements and ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Own the overall data domain map and drive it together with business data owners, master data, and data governance.
- Identify and document main data assets in DFDS and help drive development of future data products.
- Identify data producers from a domain perspective and drive anchoring of data products in the relevant teams.
- Establish KPIs and guardrails for data architecture to ensure standardisation and to support federated data governance of our data products.
- Track and mature data lineage at DFDS and enable teams across DFDS to maintain up-to-date data catalogues.
- Enable teams to design robust data architectures and solutions.

We imagine the ideal person for this position will have the following qualifications:
- Solid understanding of data mesh architecture and data as a product.
- Familiarity with regulations like GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and standards such as ISO 27001 for secure and compliant data architecture.
- Expertise in managing a central source of truth for key business entities across systems.
- Expertise in data security, including encryption at rest and in transit, data masking, and tokenization.
- Experience with data pipeline and orchestration tools like Apache Airflow.
- Knowledge of real-time data streaming and analytics using tools like Kafka, ksqlDB or Apache Flink for processing real-time data.
- Experience from logistics, supply chain management or shipping is a plus.
