This position is a part of the research project INF4INITY that investigates floating wind turbine with Nature Inspired design of scour protection and motion damping system for the floating system. The objectives are to develop and use new methods for analysing performance of porous structural parts in marine structures.
This position is located in the coastal group of the section for Fluid Mechanics, Coastal and Maritime Engineering. The Postdoc includes both development and use of the OpenFOAM library for Computational Fluid Dynamics analyses.
Responsibilities and qualifications
You shall model the effects of wave, current and sea-bed interaction with porous structures that is a part of a new Floating Wind Turbine concept. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with faculty, researchers, PhD students as well as with MSc-students.
- Set-up tests in OpenFOAM
- Implement and further develop recently developed methods for free-surface and turbulence in porous media
- Include sediment transport schemes in the modelling
- Assess sand transport interaction with porous structures
- Co-supervise master projects
- Assist with collaboration with other project members in INF4INITY
- Contribute to scientific publications and reports
Qualifications
Candidates for the position must hold:
- A PhD degree in Civil/Marine Engineering with specialization in marine structures (or equivalent)
- Excellent programming capabilities in, for instance, MATLAB
- Excellent knowledge of the CFD library OpenFOAM
- Good knowledge of C++ programming
- Good capabilities in reporting
Soft Skills
The following soft skills are also important:
- Good communication skills in English, both written and orally
- Willingness to engage in group work with a multi-national team
- Pro-active personality
Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:
- Solid experience with numerical methods, preferably CFD
- Documented research capabilities
- Some experience with teaching
- Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years. Starting date is 1 November 2024 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.
