PhD fellowship in brain tumor bioinformatics at BRIC, Kristensen groupFaculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen
We are offering a PhD fellowship in brain tumor bioinformatics commencing April 2025.
Our group and research
The selected candidate will be part of professor, consultant neuropathologist Bjarne Winther Kristensen’s research group and professor in neurosurgery Tiit Mathiesen’s research group. Bjarne Winther Kristensen will be the principal supervisor and Tiit Mathiesen principal co-supervisor. Our main interest is how the role of the tumor microenvironment influences brain tumor aggressiveness and therapy response and how this change between different types and subtypes of brain tumors. Most of our projects focus on glioblastoma and meningioma.
Your job
You will join a multi-disciplinary research team that works with both patient tumor tissue, experimental in vitro and in vivo brain tumor models and advanced bioinformatics.
The main tasks in the PhD project will be to bioinformatically investigate the tumor microenvironment in histologically distinct glioblastoma and meningioma samples and correlate these findings with clinical outcomes. Part of the project will also cover patient-derived animal models. The ideal candidate should have a background in biological sciences and have experience in either data analysis of high-plex spatial transcriptomics or single-cell/nuclei RNA sequencing or have experience in R or python. Previous experience as research assistant in the area is a merit. You should be self-motivated and be able to coordinate multiple collaborations and drive the project forward.
Start: 1 April 2025 or as soon as possible hereafter
Duration: 3 years as a PhD student
