- Making things work.
Quantum technologies are rapidly advancing, with demonstrated quantum advantage in computing, communication, and sensing. However, to unlock their full potential, fundamental challenges remain - particularly in scaling quantum systems, improving error tolerance, and achieving quantum control in practical settings. These PhD projects focus on developing continuous-variable (CV) quantum technologies that operate in the macroscopic domain, paving the way for next-generation quantum information processing.
Continuous variable quantum information processingHarness continuous-variable quantum states of light - such as squeezed, entangled, and non-Gaussian states - as powerful resources for:
- Quantum communication, enabling secure and high-bandwidth information transfer,
- Quantum computing, leveraging CV cluster states for fault-tolerant quantum processing,
- Extreme quantum sensing, surpassing classical precision limits for metrology and imaging,
- Fundamental tests of quantum mechanics, exploring macroscopic quantum phenomena.
Explore quantum control of acoustic and vibrational modes in pristine crystals and micromechanical oscillators using continuous-variable quantum techniques to:
- Prepare non-classical states of mechanical modes, pushing macroscopic quantum physics forward,
- Develop low-loss CV detection schemes for high-fidelity quantum measurements,
- Implement CV quantum protocols for quantum-limited force and motion sensing.
You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
Approval and EnrolmentThe scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education .
Salary and appointment termsThe appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
