The Position

The identified candidate will be leading the Legal and Compliance function, being the business partner for Diagnostics in Denmark. The identified candidate will be providing legal advice to internal stakeholders on a wide range of strategic and operational matters through the development of strategies and frameworks that ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, Roche’s principles, and standards. The successful candidate will provide sound advice and proactively work to shape opportunities and navigate risks for Roche's business, customers & patients. On top of it, the new Head of Legal and Compliance will become a permanent member of the Denmark Diagnostics Enablement Team.

Key accountabilities

  1. Develop and implement the company’s legal and compliance strategy in alignment with Roche's business priorities and goals.
  2. Maintain Roche’s license to operate by ensuring that the company complies with legal and regulatory requirements including but not limited to antitrust, data privacy, public procurement, anti-bribery regulation, employment, and product liability.
  3. Ensure the effectiveness of the Legal and Compliance function in the oversight and management of all legal matters, including contracts, litigation, engagement, and communication with external legal, regulatory, or compliance bodies.
  4. Partner with the business in tender processes by identifying and analyzing opportunities and mitigating legal risks; leading contract negotiation with key customers and/or stakeholders.
  5. Advise on new aspects of the law ensuring that the business is continuously compliant, taking into consideration new business models and digitalization (e.g. data sharing arrangements, e-commerce).
  6. Manage corporate law matters (e.g. board of directors meetings, appointment of directors, granting of powers of attorney, corporate law operations, commercial leases, delegations of authorities, inter-company agreements).
  7. Act as the single point of contact for all compliance & legal matters and, as needed, coordinate and assign actions to external counsels while ensuring quality and containing costs.
  8. Ensure the execution of local compliance initiatives: training, processes policies and standard operating procedures, communication, and monitoring of compliance matters.
  9. Timely handle all compliance issues that represent a material compliance or reputation risk.
  10. Coordinate and align with the Roche Legal and Compliance network to source and share best practices with regard to business challenges and opportunities.
  11. Lead and develop a high-performing team by setting clear objectives, prioritizing work, and optimizing operational tasks in support of the business teams.
  12. Foster collaboration, provide guidance and resources, conduct regular check-ins, implement development plans, and create a positive work environment that aligns with company goals, culture, and policies.

Qualifications & Requirements

  1. Law degree.
  2. Qualified lawyer in Denmark.
  3. A minimum of 8 years experience, obtained via a combination of private practice and in-house, preferably in the medical device, biotech, or pharmaceutical industries.
  4. A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience either directly, matrixed or otherwise.
  5. Proven track record of handling complex legal and compliance issues.
  6. In-depth knowledge of healthcare laws, regulations, and compliance standards in Denmark.
  7. Deep understanding of the Nordics market and culture.
  8. High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards.
  9. Fluent in written and oral English and Danish.
