Job Description

KU - SUND - TEILUM - Kbh Ø is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant and Ph.D. Fellow to join our team in the Department of Forensic Medicine. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project investigating the risks and health consequences of Conducted Electrical Weapons (CEW).

Project Overview

The project aims to study the risks of injuries and health consequences associated with the use of CEW in comparison to other modalities of police force. The research will focus on the following objectives:

  • Assess the risk of lesions and health effects that may arise from exposure to CEW and other police use of force modalities.
  • Examine the situations in which police use different means of force, such as CEW, baton, and OC-spray, and study the risk of injuries to both police officers and subjects.
  • Gather general knowledge on the sociodemographic characteristics of the group of subjects exposed to police use of force.
Responsibilities

The Research Assistant and Ph.D. Fellow will be responsible for:

  • Preparing research protocols and drafting agreements for research data and collaborations.
  • Managing and carrying out the research project, including data collection, database management, and data analysis.
  • Attending Ph.D. courses and workshops to develop research skills.
  • Writing scientific articles and the Ph.D. thesis.
  • Teaching and disseminating research findings.
  • Working collaboratively with supervisors, co-Ph.D. students, and other colleagues to maintain a productive working environment.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • A Master's degree in health sciences or a related field.
  • Experience in forensic pathology and clinical forensic medicine.
  • Fluency in written and oral Danish.
  • Good competencies in oral and written English.
  • Excellent teamworking skills.
  • A flexible mindset in approach to tasks and daily duties.
Desirable Qualifications

Applicants with the following qualifications will be highly advantageous:

  • Understanding of Conducted Electrical Weapons.
  • Experience with documentation and interpretation of lesions in a legal context.
  • Hands-on experience with Forensic Pathology.
  • Experience with scientific work.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Working experience in a multidisciplinary environment.
Terms of Employment

The employment as a Research Assistant and Ph.D. Fellow is full-time (37 working hours per week on average). The position is for 6 months followed by a Ph.D. scholarship for 3 years. The start date for the Research Assistant position is negotiable, directly followed by the Ph.D. scholarship period.

The employment is conditioned upon the applicant's successful enrollment as a Ph.D. student at the Graduate School at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. This requires submission and acceptance of an application for the specific project formulated by the applicant.
