We are seeking a talented PhD researcher to join our team at the Department of Ecoscience at Aarhus University. As a PhD researcher in aquatic ecosystem modeling, you will investigate the complex interactions between turbulence and algae dynamics in lakes using high-frequency monitoring data.

Research Objectives:

The main objective of this project is to develop innovative mathematical models to improve our projections and understanding of non-linear aquatic ecosystem processes. This involves deploying high-frequency loggers at Lake Ravn, Denmark, and conducting regular microstructure profiler measurements of turbulent mixing and fluorescence.

The PhD student will apply exploratory machine learning techniques to discover underlying relationships in the high-frequency data set. These projections will be compared to state-of-the-art vertical 1D aquatic ecosystem models to discuss their uncertainty.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Applicants must have a relevant Master's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or a related discipline. Experience in scientific programming with Python and/or R is required, along with basic understanding of freshwater ecology and physical limnology. Interest in conducting field work, numerical modeling, and applying machine learning methods to environmental data is highly desirable.
