The Department of Ecoscience at Aarhus University invites applications for a PhD fellowship to investigate the complex interactions between turbulence and algae dynamics in lakes.

Job Description:

This project aims to apply deep learning algorithms on high-frequency monitoring data for scientific discovery of governing equations and driving factors. The successful candidate will conduct field work, curate high-frequency data, and apply exploratory machine learning techniques to discover underlying relationships.

The PhD student will be part of the Computational Limnology team at the Freshwater Ecology section at Aarhus University, focused on having a diverse, fair, and inclusive team environment. Team members support each other and help out when needed. We implement the principles of open data and open science to collaborate efficiently and ensure reproducibility.

Qualifications and Specific Competences:

Applicants must have a relevant Master's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or a related discipline. Experience in scientific programming with Python and/or R is required, along with basic understanding of freshwater ecology and physical limnology. Interest in conducting field work, numerical modeling, and applying machine learning methods to environmental data is highly desirable.
