About the Position

The Danish Technical University (DTU) is seeking a highly skilled PhD researcher to join its team of experts in autonomous maritime surveillance. This exciting opportunity will enable you to contribute to groundbreaking research that merges robotics, artificial intelligence, and maritime security.

As part of this project, you will focus on developing novel algorithms for cooperative simultaneous localization and mapping to deploy autonomous surveillance solutions for critical infrastructure. Your work will be instrumental in strengthening DTU's expertise in autonomous marine systems.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform internationally relevant research in multi-vehicle simultaneous localization and mapping using multimodal sensor technologies.
  • Create multiple datasets including navigation, acoustic and optical data collected from both ASV and ROV.
  • Create a cm-level accurate, semantic 3D map of critical infrastructure using optical and acoustic features.
  • Perform accurate target tracking in GNSS and communication degraded environments.
  • Carry out experimental work with autonomous surface and underwater vehicles in real marine environments for data collection and validation of developed solutions.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • You must have a two-year master's degree or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
  • Strong analytical skills and background in control/estimation theory and machine learning.
  • Experience within the field of robotic localization, acoustic or optical perception is a plus.
  • Documented experience through courses, projects or former professional work to develop and test solutions for real robotic systems.
