About the Position

The Klima, Energi- og Forsyningsministeriet is seeking a skilled machine learning scientist to develop and apply innovative data-driven models for accurate and near real-time weather forecasting. As a Machine Learning Scientist for Weather Forecasting, you will contribute to the development of new models for predicting weather patterns, supporting the green transition and ensuring the safety and well-being of communities in Denmark and Greenland.

Key Responsibilities:
• Contribute to the development and application of data-driven models for weather forecasting.
• Collaborate with international research partners to advance the understanding of weather prediction models.
• Work closely with the Weather Research Department to develop and implement new models and techniques.
• Develop and maintain software for data analysis and modeling.

Requirements:
• Master's or Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics, atmospheric sciences, applied physics, data science, or a closely related field.
• Substantial experience and a proven track record in scientific machine learning, particularly in the context of environmental sciences.
• Proficiency in scientific programming, data management, and analysis, including data pre-processing and post-processing.
• Strong data handling and analysis skills, including experience with frameworks such as PyTorch, PyTorch-Lightning, JAX, Flux.JL, Zygote.JL, and MLFlow.
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems and scripting.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and international research partners.

About Us:
The Weather Research Department at the Klima, Energi- og Forsyningsministeriet is comprised of approximately 60 scientists, with 25 of them working in the weather modeling section. We boast a diverse and internationally recognized staff, reflecting the collaborative nature of our research. We offer a flexible working week of 37 hours, inclusive of a paid lunch break, and provide 6 weeks of paid vacation annually.
