Key Responsibilities- The Senior Engineering Manager manages and coordinates activities of the Engineering Design Department. This individual provides technical expertise and oversees the manpower necessary for overall project design development and support.
- Ccoordinate with project managers to determine scope, complexity, and planning, and scheduling requirements of projects. Assign personnel to provide engineering and technical support, determine the correct personnel needed with the most appropriate individual qualifications and prepare manpower & cost estimates.
- Ensure the quality, accuracy, and completeness of overall work regarding engineering design and CAD quality, compliance with established IPS standards, procedures, codes, and ordinances, adherence to design and project schedules, and provide adequate training, technical & administrative guidance and instruction to personnel within the department.
- Develop Engineering's strategic business plan in concert with overall company planning efforts involving the technical and regulatory activities required to achieve long-range annual goals and objectives.
- Manage various personnel functions, including but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, salary position recommendations, and employee development. Plan and schedule work for the department ensuring the proper and effective distribution of assignments and manpower, as well as the space and facilities for the subsequent performance of duties.
- Evaluate and initiate the necessary training of the engineering discipline to ensure pertinent technical competence, acceptable social/communication skills and personal development of leadership. Maintains a training log for each employee and provides Senior Management with a quarterly report that outlines appropriate recommendations for training and a quarter-by-quarter budget.
- Determine labor, resource and financial needs of the department.
- Develop discipline policies, technical standards, and procedures as needed.
- Establish productivity measurements and a reporting system to track progress and ensure compliance. Regularly review productivity/quality reports to ensure top performance.
- Participate in business development by seeking out new projects that may exist with current or new clients. Contribute to the preparation and delivery of sales presentations.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert within the discipline and complete project work as needed.
