Preformulation Scientist/Specialist for Pharmaceutical Development

We are currently seeking an experienced pharmaceutical specialist in preformulation for a new position within Pharmaceutical Development. The ideal candidate will possess a strong scientific background in physicochemical science, preclinical and/or early phase formulation development, and biopharmaceutical science, including knowledge of how to enhance drug performance through formulation development.
As part of our Pharmaceutical Development team, you will work on research and development projects from early pre-clinical phases through development until scaling up for commercial production. Our primary focus is on oral drug forms and ensuring the right formulation strategies for individual compounds.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of novel drugs for brain diseases, apply your expertise in preformulation, and drive challenging projects forward.
Your Future Team
Pharmaceutical Development is part of the Chemical & Pharmaceutical Development (C&PD) organization. C&PD is responsible for CMC development and innovation in pharmaceuticals based on chemically synthesized molecules. The division comprises four areas that broadly cover analytical, pharmaceutical, and chemical development.
Our team consists of approximately 13 highly engaged and positive employees. We collaborate in Valby, where we have our laboratory facilities equipped with various technologies used for our development projects across different scales.

About Your Role
As a preformulation scientist, you will play a key role in generating developability assessments and strategies for molecules in our pipeline.
You will use your scientific background and strategic understanding of drug product development to set the right strategy for projects as part of CMC project teams.
Your essential tasks include:
- Leading early phase preformulation development activities, establishing physicochemical knowledge, and developability assessments.
- Overseeing preformulation experiments in internal or external labs.
- Developing dose formulations for non-clinical studies in cross-organizational collaboration, as part of a CMC team, with close interactions with other relevant parts of the organization.
- Ensuring a strong link between preformulation and human formulation development, including biopharmaceutical assessments and supporting human formulation strategies.
- Collaborating with project teams to progress research and development projects, contributing preformulation and pharmaceutical expertise to find the right strategy for individual projects.
- Preparing documentation for both internal and regulatory purposes.
The job requires highly developed scientific understanding and skills, as well as the ability to solve complex scientific challenges in an agile environment where we continuously apply external and internal knowledge.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with a PhD or MSc in pharmaceutical science, engineering, or another relevant scientific discipline.
The preferred candidate should have excellent understanding and proven scientific skills within preformulation or early phase pharmaceutical development, striving to maintain a high scientific standard.
Experience within biopharmacy and knowledge of PBPK modeling, e.g., GastroPlus, is a clear advantage.
The ideal candidate should possess drive and a positive mindset, be able to inspire colleagues and teams, even when facing obstacles, and demonstrate problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects with changing priorities.
A minimum salary of 80,000 USD per year, commensurate with experience.
