Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Københavns Universitet Full time

We are seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join our team at the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. This three-year PhD fellowship focuses on developing novel methods for microglassification of pharmaceutical proteins.

Protein drugs have revolutionized the treatment of severe diseases, but they often require injection and are prone to degradation. Our project aims to investigate microglassification, a technique that prepares dried protein particles with desired properties using microfluidics. By studying the factors governing particle characteristics, we will design these particles for specific applications, such as injectable suspensions, pulmonary delivery, or solid dosage formulations.

This interdisciplinary project combines particle design, protein biophysics, and advanced analytical characterization. As a researcher, you will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to develop innovative solutions for protein drug delivery. You will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities, including modern laboratories and a range of biophysical methods.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out an independent research project under supervision
  • Completing PhD courses or other equivalent education corresponding to approximately 30 ECTS points
  • Participating in active research environments, including a stay at another research team, preferably abroad
  • Obtaining experience with teaching or other types of dissemination related to your PhD project
  • Teaching undergraduate students in pharmaceutical sciences

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant field, such as pharmaceutical sciences, physical chemistry, engineering, or similar
  • Professional qualifications relevant to the PhD project
  • A curious mindset with a strong interest in protein biophysics and pharmaceutical technology

Beyond the requirements listed above, we are looking for a highly self-motivated individual with experience in and/or knowledge of drug delivery of biopharmaceuticals, protein structural analysis, microfluidics, and/or physical chemistry. The candidate must be able to work independently but will interact with a multidisciplinary project group involved in many aspects of studying and evaluating protein drug delivery.

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week. The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 3 years. The employment is conditioned upon the applicant's successful enrolment as a PhD student at the Graduate School at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

The salary starts at approximately $40,500 USD (April 2024 level) plus pension. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.
