Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Københavns Universitet Full time
Postdoc in social network emergence and methodology (interdisciplinary) at SODAS, University of Copenhagen

We invite applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship in social network emergence and methodology.

The starting date is flexible, but the position will commence on February 1, 2025. However, an earlier or later start date can be negotiated.

Social networks show high structural diversity across humans and non-human animal species, and these structures affect important processes such as disease spread and information dissemination. Understanding how complex structures emerge from individual behavior is crucial.

This postdoc is part of a project called 'New computational approaches for understanding the emergence of social network structures', funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The project involves collaborators Josefine Bohr Brask, Sune Lehmann, and Lauren Brent.

The postdoc will explore new methods for extracting information about underlying processes from network data, collaborating with the project team. Other network-related research opportunities are available.

The work includes modeling networks and/or analyzing social network data from various species, including a long-term dataset from Rhesus macaques in Puerto Rico. Field work is not required, but a stay at the macaque field site can be integrated if desired.

The position involves conducting research, presenting findings at conferences, writing articles, and potentially teaching/student supervision.

We seek a motivated candidate interested in fundamental research on networks and social systems.

Relevant backgrounds include biology, physics, computer science, mathematics, social data science, or related areas. Knowledge about network modeling and analysis, and programming experience, are advantageous. Familiarity with social behavior is also beneficial.

The main language of the research environment is English, so proficiency is necessary.

A PhD degree is required by the time of employment.
