We are seeking a highly motivated Defence and Security Researcher to join our team at the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
The position offers a range of opportunities for the candidate, including being part of a vibrant and ambitious research environment, developing an independent research agenda, engaging with key stakeholders within defence and security studies, and contributing to teaching activities at the department.
About the Role
As a Defence and Security Researcher, you will contribute to the scholarship and intellectual life of the University by conducting world-class research in defence and security studies. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Conducting research within the field of defence and security studies, focusing on strategic options for Denmark and other Western countries.
- Developing and implementing research projects that address pressing issues in defence and security policy, such as foreign, security, or defence policy.
- Engaging with key stakeholders, including the Danish Ministry of Defence, the Danish Armed Forces, and other national and international partners.
- Teaching undergraduate and post-graduate students at the Department of Political Science, University of Copenhagen.
Your Qualifications
To be eligible for this position, you must have a PhD in Political Science or equivalent academic qualifications, with a strong background in defence and security studies. We are looking for a researcher who can demonstrate:
- An emerging international reputation based on a publication profile that complements the existing research strengths of the Centre for Military Studies.
- Documented experience with knowledge exchange and/or policy-impact in an international context and in Denmark.
- Robust interpersonal skills, enabling you to be a constructive and empathic colleague in a diverse working environment.
- A clear, well-developed, and viable strategy for future outstanding research that will result in world-leading publications.
Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time position available for two years, starting from January 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The estimated salary for this position is approximately DKK 560,000 (€75,000) per year, depending on your level of experience and qualifications.
