Power System and Converter Control Engineer

We are looking for a skilled Electrical Power Systems Engineer to join our Grid Connection department at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in developing innovative solutions for the control and regulation of wind turbines and power plants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electrical simulation models for wind turbines and power plants using Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) simulations.
  • Develop advanced converter control algorithms for grid features and integrate them into our systems.
  • Analyze model performance and provide inputs to other departments to ensure seamless integration.
  • Document all activities, including design reports, validation reports, and user manuals.
  • Develop automation tools to streamline simulations and create reports automatically.

Technical Requirements:

  • Possess strong knowledge of power system engineering, including transmission and distribution networks, grid elements, electrical machines, harmonics analysis, and power electronic converter design and control.
  • Familiarity with control theory and application, as well as grid forming control systems, real-time embedded control, and implementation.
  • Experience with transient stability, electromagnetic transients simulation, dynamic studies, simulation and modeling of control and electrical systems, and small signal stability analysis.

Software Skills:

  • Proficient in PSCAD, Fortran compilers, encryption techniques, and creation/integration of compiled code (DLLs) into simulation tools.
  • Strong programming skills in Fortran and C, as well as experience with MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Familiarity with RSCAD, a real-time digital simulator.

Simulation & Modeling:

  • Desirable experience with type-3 and type-4 wind turbine technologies for transient stability studies.
  • Knowledge of wind power plants, renewable energy power plants, and algorithms for controlling power plants, particularly wind turbines and power converters.

Other Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly and concisely.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to take initiative in finding innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Able to thrive in a multicultural environment, with fluency in spoken and written English.
