We are seeking an experienced Environmental Biotechnology Researcher to join our team at Aarhus University.

Job Description

This is a 4-year fixed-term full-time position available from June 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be part of the Section of Environmental Engineering, which develops environmental technologies and models of physical, chemical, and biological processes important for environmental quality.

Main Responsibilities
  • Conduct and design laboratory experiments to characterize and quantify processes in waste materials.
  • Treat and analyze complex datasets with multiple online and offline analytical parameters.
  • Develop methane production inhibitors and experience with bioenergy processes, preferably biomethanation.
  • Disseminate and publish scientific articles, and teach at the bachelor and master levels.

The successful applicant is expected to target optimized carbon management in the agricultural waste chain by minimizing loss of methane and maximizing yield of biomethane for energy or other valuable end products.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Applicants should hold a PhD in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or equivalent. Key qualifications include:

  • Experience with conducting and designing laboratory experiments.
  • Documented skills in data analysis and treatment.
  • Competences in physical, chemical, and biological characterization of waste materials.
  • Experience with development of methane production inhibitors.
  • Experience with bioenergy processes, preferably biomethanation.
  • Documented competence in dissemination and publication of scientific articles.

Furthermore, applicants are expected to have strong cooperation and communication skills, be independent in their research, and have strong skills in scientific writing and written English.

What We Offer

Aarhus University offers a well-developed research infrastructure, laboratories, and access to shared equipment. Our department and section offer special facilities like a livestock housing climate laboratory, pilot-scale slurry storage facility, and an expansive research biogas plant incl. gas upgrading and P2X.

The salary for this position is estimated to be approximately DKK 550,000 - DKK 750,000 per year, depending on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations. In addition to salary, we offer a range of benefits, including a comprehensive pension scheme and a generous holiday allowance.
