Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Monta Full time

Salary: up to 50,000 DKK gross/month (depending on you seniority level)

About Monta
Monta powers the EV charging ecosystem. With 300,000+ monthly users and millions of charge sessions every month, our platform accelerates the electrification of mobility.

This is a fast-moving place. The problems are hard, the pace is quick, and the bar is high. If you like real ownership, figuring things out, and seeing the direct impact of your work, you'll do well with us.

AI is built into how we work. It helps us ship faster, make better decisions, and stay lean. Everyone at Monta is expected to use AI tools thoughtfully — and to find smart ways to use them to move the work forward.

Our principles keep us grounded: Build Together & Finish, Sweat the Details, Customer First, and Aim for the Moon.

The best part of Monta is the people — sharp, ambitious, and good to be around. You'll be challenged, supported, and trusted to deliver.

The Role

We're looking for a
Data Engineer
to play a key role in building and evolving Monta's data platform. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role focused on designing, building, and maintaining reliable, scalable data pipelines and models that power analytics, decision-making, and customer-facing products.

You'll work closely with the Head of Data & AI, product engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to turn raw operational data into trusted, well-modeled datasets. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, technical depth, and impact without people management responsibilities.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines from a wide range of operational systems
  • Develop high-quality data models in the warehouse that enable analytics, experimentation, and AI use cases
  • Own parts of the data platform end-to-end, from ingestion through transformation and orchestration
  • Ensure data reliability, quality, and performance as data volumes and use cases grow
  • Partner closely with analytics, product, and engineering teams to understand requirements and deliver data solutions that create business value
  • Contribute to architectural decisions as we evolve toward large-scale, streaming, and near real-time data systems
  • Apply best practices around testing, observability, documentation, and data governance
  • Support and enable downstream users by making data discoverable, understandable, and trustworthy

Our Current Stack

  • Cloud Provider: AWS
  • Data Warehouse: Snowflake
  • Transformation: dbt
  • Orchestration: Dagster
  • Analytics: PostHog
  • AI: Mastra, Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic
  • Sources: MySQL, Postgres, Kafka, OpenSearch, ClickHouse, and other operational systems
  • Visualization: , Tableau and embedded analytics

We are evolving toward large-scale data systems, modern streaming capabilities, and advanced AI/ML pipelines that support both internal teams and customer-facing products.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience as a data engineer, ideally in a high-growth or product-focused environment
  • Deep hands-on expertise with modern data warehouses and transformation tools (Snowflake, dbt, or similar)
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, pipeline design, and performance optimization
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure and data services, preferably on AWS
  • Comfort working with both batch and streaming data patterns
  • A pragmatic mindset: you balance technical quality with delivering real business impact
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, especially when working with non-data stakeholders
  • A sense of ownership and accountability for the systems you build

Bonus:

  • Experience with real-time or event-driven data architectures (e.g. Kafka)
  • Exposure to ML or AI-enabled data products

If the mission excites you but your experience isn't a perfect 1:1 match, apply anyway — we care about potential, not perfection.
AI Competency
You'll be expected to work with AI-powered tools. Some we use:

  • GitHub Copilot / Claude Code
  • ChatGPT / Gemini / Claude
  • Notion AI (docs, knowledge, meeting notes)
  • Analytics & ML: Langfuse, PyTorch, Mastra
  • AI-enhanced testing & monitoring (e.g., generative QA, Grafana ML)

We don't expect mastery of all — but we expect
comfort learning, experimenting, and adopting
AI responsibly.

Why Monta

  • Impact, not easy mode — your work matters, and you'll feel it every day.
  • Ownership from day one — we don't micromanage, we expect you to deliver.
  • The grind is real — priorities shift, and flexibility is sometimes needed to get things across the finish line. But so are the rewards: impact, growth, and a team that has your back.
  • The people are extraordinary — talented, driven, and fun to work with. You'll be challenged, supported, and inspired in equal measure

What We Offer

  • A yearly education budget and extra days off to use it.
  • A friendly and social company culture with movie nights, Friday bars, pub crawls, and more.
  • Free lunch every day.
  • Pension & health coverage to keep you secure for today and tomorrow.
  • Paid parental leave to support life's big moments.
  • Warrants program - be part of our growth story.
  • Flexible working hours; as long as you're at key meetings and delivering great work, we trust you to manage your schedule.
  • A one month electric vehicle introduction program (plus access to a shared company EV).

Please send us your application in English.
To succeed in this position, your spoken and written English skills need to be proficient. Since Monta is a globally active company, you'll be communicating often and regularly with our co-workers and partners around the world, making your professional English knowledge essential.

Please note that we don't accept unsolicited applications from headhunters or recruitment agencies. Unsolicited applications sent to our company or co-workers are considered to be the property of Monta, and we won't agree to pay any referral compensation or recruiter fee without a signed agreement.
