Research Scientist for Heraeus Covantics Denmark in Brøndby

We are seeking a Research Scientist to join our newly established R&D and help shape the fiber products of tomorrow. The position is available from January 2026, or earliest thereafter.

Working in a high-tech production environment, we are aiming to develop new processes and refine tomorrow's future fiber products in close collaboration with other Heraeus sites and local departments. About us

Heraeus Covantics Denmark, located in Brøndby, specializes in the production of optical fibers and currently employing around 50 people. We are part of the Heraeus Group, a global company with its headquarters in Germany with approximately 17,200 people in 40 countries.

We are growing rapidly, introducing new production facilities, products and processes in need of designing, developing, simulation and more, while day-to-day operations are supported to deliver consistently high performance.

Your role will be flexible and wide

You will be part of a newly established R&D team (currently 3 people), you will have the chance to work on:

• Developing new generation fiber like hollow-core and multi-core fibers, including the simulation thereof
• Improving drawing technologies and implementation them into an industrial environment
• Application and improvement of process measurement technology and fiber characterization techniques
• Analysis and evaluation of process and test data to derive measures for improvement, as well as ensuring reproducibility
• Support work for transfer of R&D processes into production launch

While prior knowledge in these topics is beneficial, we believe that an open mindset and eagerness to learn is just as valuable. We will support your development and provide the training you need to succeed.

Your Qualifications

We prefer candidates who have successfully completed a Master's or Ph.D. degree in one of the following or related fields:

• Physics
• Process Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Material Sciences
• Other STEM disciplines

You should have a basic knowledge about fiber optics. We are looking for people having 0-5 years of relevant experience (including Ph.D. ). Proficiency in English is a must. Knowledge of Danish is a plus, and a willingness to learn the language is highly appreciated.

It is an advantage if you have knowledge in:

• Lab experience with fibers (e.g. handling, splicing, metrology, manufacturing)
• Optical and material simulation using software like Comsol Multiphysics, Matlab, and python, using it for example for: FEM simulation of optical parameters like modal properties, mode propagation, dispersion; Modelling of new fiber designs; Viscous flow of glass and stresses in glass
• Understanding of material properties (e.g. crack formation, diffusion, crystallization)
• Experience with machine/device control, as well as data handling and evaluation
• Ideally practical knowledge and experience in processing of high-tech glass, especially processing hot quartz glass
