Your new position

Join Zealand Pharma's Data Analytics & AI Platform team as Lead AI Engineer, serving as the technical lead and subject matter expert for AI technologies. This role sets the technical direction for our internal AI Assistant platform and our Discovery Research developer platform, while remaining hands-on to deliver high-quality solutions. Partner closely with AI Strategy and relevant R&D teams to define our AI roadmap, establish engineering standards, and ship secure, reliable, and scalable AI-enabled products that create measurable impact across the organization.

We offer exciting responsibilities:

• Serve as the internal SME on AI; guide solution and system choices, patterns, and guardrails; mentor colleagues and support the overall adoption effort on AI in Zealand Pharma
• Translate business needs into actionable technical requirements; prioritize features, manage delivery milestones, and drive continuous improvement
• Own the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for our internal AI Assistant platform and our Discovery Research developer platform
• Built on top of our engineering best practices for AI products, including CI/CD, testing, observability, evaluation, and performance/cost optimization
• Partner with our Business IT Application team to technically advise on agentic workflows, integration patterns and reliability when evaluating AI‑embedded business applications
• Collaborate with Cyber security, legal and the IT Cloud team to ensure scalability, security-by-design, and alignment with enterprise standards

Your profile

A pragmatic technical leader who combines architectural depth with hands-on execution. Skilled at setting standards, mentoring peers, and translating complex needs into simple and secure AI solutions. Focused on outcomes, reliability, and responsible use of AI across the organization.

• Proven experience leading the development and operation of AI-powered applications in production, including LLM-enabled features
• Strong software engineering foundation (testing, code reviews, CI/CD); Python expertise preferred and ability to guide coding standards
• Front-end development experience to shape product experiences; React experience is a strong plus
• Proficiency in solution architecture for cloud-native services, APIs, and data access with privacy, security, and governance in mind
• Practical knowledge of prompt engineering, retrieval techniques, model/service evaluation, and monitoring of AI systems
• Ability to align stakeholders, communicate trade-offs, and produce clear technical designs and documentation
• Experience within the BioPharma industry as well as knowledge about GxP processes is a strong plus
