Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 2-year position in dopamine biology commencing 1 February 2023 or as soon as possible hereafter.
Our group and research
We are a research group of about 20 people working on dopamine biology and on diseases characterized by dysfunctional dopamine homeostasis such as parkinsonism, ADHD, addiction and obesity. We employ a broad spectrum of techniques ranging from classical pharmacological and biochemical methods to advanced imaging (), mouse behaviour, chemogenetics and optogenetics. We strive to work interdisciplinary and have a diverse group of specialized team members in addition to working with many both national and international collaborators within the field (see also ).
Your job
The postdoctoral project is focused on how fast dopamine release dynamics are coupled across brain regions to discrete behavioural outputs in mice. Experiments will be carried out both on wild type mice and genetic mouse models of dopamine-related disease including parkinsonism and ADHD. Methods will primarily involve virus-mediated expression of genetically encoded sensors together with multiregion fiber photometry and selected behavioural assays. These approaches will be further combined with optogenetic and chemogenic techniques for specific manipulation of neuronal activity.
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:
Important experience and skills:
You have a PhD neuropharmacology or equivalent About 3 years of prior post-doc experience Experience with stereotactic surgery in mice Experience with fiber photometry measurements and data analysis Experience with microdialysis Experience with mouse behaviour relevant for the dopamine system Expertise knowledge on and an active interest in the dopamine system and dopamine pharmacology Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams Excellent English skills written and spoken Project planning and conceptualization Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Neuroscience, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories situated in the Maersk Tower.
Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week. The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years. The starting date is 1 Febuary 2023 or after agreement.
Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 35,000 DKK/approx. 4,700 EUR (October 2021 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund. Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years. The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
