Postdoc position on omics data integration at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research

København, Denmark Københavns Universitet Full time

A postdoc position is available at the Cellular Network Biology group at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR – ). The Center was established in 2007 at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to promote basic and applied discovery research on human proteins of medical relevance. It comprises a wide range of expertise and resources including proteomics, protein production, bioinformatics and general characterization of disease mechanisms. The Disease Systems Biology program consists of three research groups covering many systems level aspects of biology and medicine, including the integration of molecular-level data and healthcare data, including biomedical texts.

Start date: January 2023.

Responsibilities and tasks
The Cellular Network Biology group () is led by Lars Juhl Jensen, a leading expert on literature mining and network-based biomedical data integration.

One of the resources developed and maintained in the group is TISSUES, a database collecting and integrating information about which transcripts/proteins are expressed in which tissues or cell types, in human and three model species. The most important and reliable data source in TISSUES is large scale transcriptomics or proteomics datasets. We want to further expand the database with more recent omics data, including single cell RNA-Seq, to include data for a wider range of organisms, and possibly also to extend the scope to ncRNAs. You will find, analyze and integrate relevant omics datasets, and will develop an improved method for assigning confidence scores for a transcript/protein being present in a specific cell or tissue. You will also work on implementing a method for identifying ranked lists of cell/tissue specific genes.

Qualifications
Candidates for the postdoctoral position must hold a PhD degree in bioinformatics (or equivalent) within a relevant discipline, must have good programming skills as well as experience in analyzing high-throughput transcriptomic data. The successful candidates will have:

Strong programming skills in R/python Experience with analyzing high-throughput transcriptomics data (ideally both bulk and single cell RNA-Seq)

It will be an advantage to also have experience in the following areas:

Text mining Biomedical ontologies Proteomics

The group is highly multidisciplinary and international. Members are expected to collaborate both within the group, within the center, nationally, and internationally; strong networking and team player skills are therefore valued.

Place of employment and work
The employment is at CPR (), Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, located in central Copenhagen. The research environment at CPR is ambitious and international, with approx. 30 different nationalities currently represented. The Center comprises modern laboratories, supercomputer resources and state-of-the-art facilities within protein science. Seminars with high-profile international speakers and regular internal research seminars are organized at the Center. The selected candidate should expect some travel activity.
