The Department of Biology at the Faculty of Science, the University of Copenhagen is looking for a machine learning programmer for a 2.5-year period from 1 August 2023, until 31 December 2025.

About us

The Center for Basic Machine Learning Research in Life Science (MLLS) consists of six research groups from the University of Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark who have joined forces to develop the next generation of machine learning models to help aid in drug design and more. The center is housed within the Pioneer Center for AI situated in downtown Copenhagen. This is a central hub for Danish AI research and provides an exciting and vibrant environment.

Tasks

We are looking for a talented machine learning programmer to help develop research infrastructure to advance state-of-the-art protein engineering tools. If you join us, you will work on omics, biomedical image, text, and biological sequence data, optimize the quality of research code, and make our research accessible with prediction servers. Specifically, you will be part of a dedicated team, that develops generative models of molecules, which are used in conjunction with Bayesian optimization tools for designing new molecules, e.g., for improving the stability or binding affinity of a protein. You will collaborate with the team to develop robust, reliable, and scalable software to enable this pipeline.

We expect

Your main area of expertise is in software development and deployment, and we expect you to

Have a strong set of Python skills. Have experience with Docker or similar container technologies. Have experience with software testing and continuous integration. Be keen on collaborating with researchers from different backgrounds.

It is an advantage if you have machine learning experience, but if not, this is your chance to enter the arguably most exciting branch of computer science.

We offer
You will work in a creative and energetic team with a flat hierarchical structure, and next-to-no administrative overhead. You will have a defining role in how the software you co-develop is structured. You will report to Professor Ole Winther.

Terms of salary and employment

The employment is made in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Organisations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and the Professional Agreement for clerical employees, laboratory technicians and IT-officers in the state.

You will be employed as IT Officer. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time is 37 hours per week on average.
