Center for Grundtvig Studies and the School of Culture and Society, Aarhus University, invites applications for a full time position (37 hours weekly) as senior researcher Grundtvig Studies and Digital Scholarly Editing. The position is permanent commencing November 1, 2024 or as soon as possible hereafter.

Place of employment: Aarhus University, Center for Grundtvig Studies. The center is located on two addresses: Nobelparken, Jens Chr. Skous vej 7, 8000 Aarhus C, and Vartov, Farvergade 27A, 1463 København K, Denmark. The applicant is expected to work primarily in one of the two locations.

The position

We are seeking an innovative and dedicated scholar with a robust research profile in Grundtvig Studies, 19th Century Danish history, and/or Theology. The ideal candidate must also possess documented experience in philology and editorial processes. The Center for Grundtvig Studies is a distinguished research institution committed to advancing scholarship through research, dissemination, and the publication of a digital scholarly edition of the works of Grundtvig.

The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate competences within the scope of Center for Grundtvig Studies’ research activities, and a research plan of 3-5 pages should be submitted which aligns with the center’s activities. The successful applicant will be expected to conduct relevant research projects and to contribute to the digital scholarly edition of Grundtvig’s Works.
Apart from carrying out research and contributing to the overall research agenda of Center for Grundtvig Studies, the successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the academic environment at The School of Culture and Society and its core activities in the areas of research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange according to Aarhus University’s overall strategy.

Research

The successful applicant is expected to develop and head research projects of relevance to field of Grundtvig Studies preferably with an emphasis on digital scholarly editions as well as digital textual methods. The person appointed to the position will also be expected to participate in collective research projects and pursue external research funding.

Talent development

The successful applicant is expected to supervise PhD students and contribute to the development and implementation of PhD courses in the field of Grundtvig Studies, 19th Century Studies, and Digital Scholarship.

Knowledge exchange

It is expected that the successful applicant will engage in knowledge exchange as described in the strategy for the Faculty of Arts , for instance research cooperation with private companies, government consultancy, cooperation with civil society partners or the public dissemination of knowledge. Applicants should document any prior experience within the field of knowledge exchange.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent qualifications in digital philology or related areas of research as well as research and teaching qualifications equivalent to those acquired in an senior researcher.
Applicants must furthermore be able to document: 

• Research relevant to Center for Grundtvig Studies.
• A strong, relevant international publication profile.
• Experience of participation in collective research projects.
• Successful teaching experience in areas of relevance.
• Participation in national and international networks as well as experience of interdisciplinary cooperation.
• Experience of attracting external research funding.
• Experience of supervising student projects.

• Experience in Digital Scholarly Editing

Past research achievements will be assessed based on the active research time of the applicant in question. We therefore ask applicants to specify any career breaks they have had (for instance due to maternity/paternity leave) in order to gauge their research productivity.

We emphasise the importance of good working relationships, both among colleagues and with our students. In order to maintain and develop the department’s research environment, the person appointed is expected to be present at the department on a daily basis.

Language and further information

If the successful applicant is not fluent in Danish, s/he will be expected to acquire the language within a period of approximately two years.

The Work Environment

Center for Grundtvig Studies is located at two addresses in Aarhus and Copenhagen. Work on the Digital Scholarly Edition is carried out in Copenhagen by a team of ten philologist and five student assistants. The successful applicant will contribute to the edition’s academic standards.
