Copenhagen Business School invites applications for one vacant postdoc position in the sociology of law and regulation at the Department of Business Humanities and Law (BHL). 

The postdoc position is a fixed termed full-time position of two years with research obligations with the possibility of a one-year extension based on teaching obligations. The research will be conducted as part of as part of the European Research Council Advanced Grant project ‘Global Value Chain Law: Constituting Connectivity, Contracts and Corporations’ (GLOBALVALUE). More information about the project is available here (). The project team will consist of a PhD, four postdocs, a senior researcher and the PI. The envisioned starting date of the positions is 1st of April 2025.

The central objective of the project is to provide a comprehensive analysis on the emergence, origin and impact of the legal principles and norms regulating global value chains. The project is divided into three work packages respectively focusing on a) the conceptual-historical origin of contemporary regulation of global value chains with a particular focus on the relation to colonial law; b) socio-legal studies of the impact of contemporary global value chain regulation, including but not limited to recent German, French and EU legislative initiatives; c) legal-theoretical work on the implications of global value chain regulation for, among others, the notions of contract, economic constitutionalism, extra-territoriality as well as the implications of global value chain regulation for democratic theory. The vacant Postdoc Position is attached to the second work package.

The research conducted will be team based and oriented towards delivering on the project objectives. Taking the project framework into consideration, applicants are required to outline their reflections on how to study the contemporary regulation of global value chains theoretically, methodologically and empirically with a special focus on the trade fair sector, and the partial digitalization thereof. Candidates are expected to have a background in either law or sociology of law and knowledge of and interest in legal regulation and having prior research experience in the field of law and digitalization.

The Department of Business Humanities and Law is dedicated to an integrated approach to the contemporary challenges facing business and society drawing on the humanities, interdisciplinary social sciences, and law. It emphasizes problem-oriented research to understand those challenges and to build the lifelong capabilities necessary to address them. Faculty within the Department of Business Humanities and Law have diverse research backgrounds and research foci including but not limited to leadership, entrepreneurship, ethics, strategy, law, politics, sociology, philosophy, history, anthropology, diversity, equity and inclusion, and leisure management. What unites faculty is an overriding concern for the organization of the human within its multiple environments and, by implication, a research interest in the interdisciplinary “conversation” between humanities and social sciences.

Within the Department of Business Humanities and Law, the position will be located in the Governance, Culture and Learning Unit, an interdisciplinary research environment connecting governance studies at all levels of global society. The candidate will also be invited to join the research group JURASOC – legal, social and technology studies.

To fulfill the requirements of the position, the applicants chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department.

  • Contributing to administrative responsibilities of the Department and CBS-wide tasks.
  • Communicating findings to the public in general and to CBS’s stakeholders in particular, including participating in the public debate.

 

Qualifications

  • The applicants should have a background in either law or sociology of law conducting field work related to the project case, with a special interest in digitalization.
  • Documented research track record at international level, including publications (or submissions) in recognized journals in one or more of the relevant fields.
  • The applicant must be proficient in English (written and spoken). Other project relevant language skills are considered highly desirable.

Recruitment procedure

The Recruitment Committee will shortlist minimum two applicants; when possible five or more applicants will be shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the Assessment Committee. All applicants will be notified of their status in the recruitment process shortly after the application deadline.
