We have an exciting opportunity in FLSmidth Cement as Head of Legal. The Head of Legal will be based in the FLSmidth Cement global headquarter in Copenhagen, overseeing the legal activities globally for Cement across our organization with main sites in Denmark, US and India.

FLSmidth Group is embarking on a journey to explore divestment opportunities for FLSmidth Cement. In addition to supporting the divestment process, this role will be instrumental in shaping the strategy for the legal department, anchored in a product and service-centric business model. Reporting to the CFO of the Cement business, your focus will be to establish a dedicated Legal organization for our Cement Business and inhouse and build the team and business support related to the Commercial and IP expertise, compliance and insurance.

The Cement industry is today accountable for approximately 7% of the global CO2 emission and FLSmidth Cement is in the forefront of the global green transition in cement production – the clear objective is to shape a sustainable future, while at the same time position the company for future growth. We are working intensively on various green solutions and the candidate will become a key player in bringing the products to the market and our customers.

You will join a company with 140 years of experience and where legacy is being an integrated part of the transition towards becoming a green, tech, service-centric company. We expect you to take an active and visible role in the transition and be able to navigate in a fast-paced environment in a flat organizational structure. This position offers a unique opportunity to establish own footprint on team structure and setup, fit for purpose to drive the strategy of FLSmidth Cement.

Your Responsibilities

Build and structure the future legal team of highly skilled legal advisors to be ready to support internal and external stakeholders of FLSmidth Cement in a stand-alone set-up

Provide legal advice and support to our Products and Service business lines as well as other stakeholders within FLSmidth Cement, including IT, HR, R&D, Finance and Strategy

Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating various types of agreements (in English)

Provide assistance to management with claims and disputes and liaising with external advisors in connection with litigation and arbitration

Embed and maintain FLSmidth Cement intellectual property rights and patents

Drive social compliance audits, Business Ethics Policy, Code of Conduct and ad hoc compliance issues

Maintain and develop relevant compliance policies and be responsible for training and implementation

Your Qualifications

Master of Laws degree from an accredited university

10+ years of relevant work experience, preferably within the industry

Experience in drafting and negotiating complex industry agreements

Extensive knowledge and understanding of intellectual property rights, in particular patents

Commercially minded and solution-oriented with the ability to analyze legal situations, understand the facts and the client's business position

Ability to deliver successfully in a fast-paced and changing environment and with tight timelines

Strong communication and negotiation skills - both oral and written

Track-record leadership skills in building and leading high-performing global teams

Experience with M&A would be an advantage, but not a requirement

High level in English, both oral and written (corporate language)

Occasional travel activity should be expected
