International Media Support (IMS) is a non-profit organisation working to support free and professional media in countries experiencing armed conflict, human insecurity, political transition, and authoritarain rule.

In more than 40 countries across four continents, IMS works to promote and strenghten professional journalism, safety for media workers and press freedom.

IMS' approach has since the outset strived for locally owned initiatives that are implemented in collaboration with local, regional, and international partners.

In Eastern Europe, IMS' work across a range of issues that influences the way we support the development of free and professional media.

We believe that independent media and access to reliable information is essential to the democratisation of a country.

The public needs access to information to hold their government accountable to commitments on improving education, health, gender equality and so forth.

To this end, good journalism delivers the critical and accurate information that the public needs to hold their governments accountable.

Job summary

IMS is seeking a dedicated Junior Programme Coordinator to join our dynamic and inclusive team at the Eastern Europe and Global Response Department.

As the Junior Programme Coordinator, your role will be to assist the department in supporting and coordinating the different phases of the project cycle and management, and programme development, including coordination and communication with partners in Eastern Europe as well as providing support for IMS' global programmes.

Your primary tasks will be assisting Programme Managers in all steps of Programme Cycle Management and in programme development. The Junior Programme Coordinator will coordinate partner relations and contact, and support the strategic implementation of programme activities. The Junior Programme Coordinator will occasionally travel to programme countries for supporting the implementation of programmes.

Key functions and key responsibilities

Programme Cycle Management

  • Assist in programme cycle management related activities, including assessments of partners, programme / project planning, and progress monitoring / reporting.
  • Provide support to the programme team in the preparation / review of various programme documents including but not limited to; narrative reporting, simple briefing updates, explanatory notes for institutional processes, workshop/ conference programmes, talking points for speeches, institutional and donor presentations
  • Provide input to event management e.g., identifying and liaising with speakers, development of programme / agenda and so on.
  • Draft or proofread documents such as Memorandum of Understanding and Terms of Reference.
  • Maintain and followup on decisions and actions agreed related to programme implementation
  • Ensure fund allocations are in alignment with budget allocations
  • Participate in annual budgeting activities
  • Maintain an uptodate document repository of programme documents and resources
Programme Development

  • Identify operational and financial challenges with programme implementation and propose solutions to mitigate operational risks.
  • Identify sources and gather data related to political, social and media developments in the local contexts that are essential for programme implementation and further programme development.
  • Provide policy input e.g. through writing a thematic brief to inform the programmes
  • Participate in fundraising activities including proposal writing and funding research
  • Where applicable support conceptualization of emergency response in case of crisis.
Partner Relations

  • Followup on local partners in providing input needed to ensure timely and effective programme cycle management
  • Partner contact with national as well as international partners including support for project formulation, facilitation of networks and follow up
Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in a field relevant to the position
  • Fluency in written and spoken English at a business level
  • Experience collaborating with international donors compiling financial and narrative reports and adhering to donor guidelines will be considered an asset
  • International experience will be considered an asset

Duration and location
The Programme Coordinator position is 37 hours per week. Duration is six months, with the possibility of extension. Compensation commensurate with experience and IMS policies.

Duty station:
IMS Headquarters, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Starting date: 15 July 2024

Organisation

You will report to the regional team lead, and work closely with IMS's Programme Teams, Cross-cutting expert adviser Hubs, Controllers as well as Communications and Fundraising Teams.
