We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic research assistant for a 6-month position, to commence on July 1st, 2024.

The position focus on the discovery and characterization of antisense antibacterial agents (antibiotics) specifically aimed at multi-resistant pathogenic gram negative bacteria.

Our research
The research group is focussing on the discovery/development of novel antisense antibiotics based on peptide nucleic acids, and involves teamwork design, synthesis, and anti-microbial studies of these both in vitro as well as in vivo, in collaboration with both national and international collaborators.

Your job
Having a background in microbiology and medical antibiotics, you would be integrated in the team and taking responsibility for a well-defined sub-project.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience: bacterial microbiology, antibiotic characterization, animal (mouse) experiments, general molecular biology techniques.

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a Masters degree in microbiology/molecular biology
  • You are highly experienced in working with pathogenic bacteria
  • You have an active interest in discovering and characterizing novel antibiotics
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken.

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Co-authoring scientific publications
  • Participation and presentation at International scientific meetings.

Key criteria for the assessment of candidates
Applicants must have qualifications corresponding to a master's degree Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biomedicine or similar (equivalent of the Danish candidate, 3 + 2 years) related to the subject area of the project.

Certified copy of original Master of Science diploma and transcript of records in the original language, including an authorized English translation if issued in other language than English or Danish. If not completed, a certified/signed copy of a recent transcript of records or a written statement from the institution or supervisor is accepted.

As a prerequisite for a PhD fellowship employment, your master's degree must be equivalent to a Danish master's degree. Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Panum, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and GMO2 facilities.

Scientific environment
The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) offers an ambitious scientific environment, with many different nationalities represented. ICMM aims to produce research with high international impact focusing on the functional cell, its genetic components, and molecular cellular mechanisms in a medical context. ICMM currently comprises five research programmes, three high profile Research Centres as well as a number of international research groups. The scientists at ICMM are involved in high quality research based undergraduate and graduate teaching programs at the University of Copenhagen.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 6 months. The starting date is July 1st, 2024.

Salary, pension, and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or another relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 32,998 DKK/approx. 4,422 EUR (April 2024 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
