Field of Postdoc: Synthetic Biology, Biotechnology

We are inviting applications for a Post-doctoral position of 12 months in the research group of Biochemical Engineering at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at the University of Copenhagen (Biochemical engineering – Institut for Plante- og Miljøvidenskab - Københavns Universitet ()).
The research group, headed by Prof. Sotirios Kampranis (Sotirios Kampranis - Plant Biochemistry Employees ()), is driven by the long-term vision to promote sustainable living by replacing harmful chemical synthesis and over-harvesting of natural resources with biological synthesis. Focusing on natural products - the complex molecules used as pharmaceuticals, flavors, or colorants - we engineer microorganisms for the production of high-value compounds.
This postdoctoral position is part of an industrial collaboration between our group and Insempra (Insempra®), a precision fermentation biotech company located in Munich, Germany. The focus of this project is the design and construction of yeast strains for industrial production of terpenoids. Frequent interaction with Insempra scientists is expected. The postdoc’s duties will include research within synthetic biology and biotechnology. The recruited researcher is expected to apply synthetic biology and biotechnology principles for engineering yeast strains for optimized production of terpenoids with already characterized biosynthetic pathways.
The position is limited for 1 year. There is a possibility of continuation of the project at Insempra in Munich, Germany after completion of the postdoctoral position.
Skills and experience required or highly desired for the position:
PhD experience in yeast Metabolic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Molecular or Synthetic Biology or related field Knowledge of specialized metabolism with special focus on terpenoids Theoretical and hands-on expertise in molecular biology and biochemistry Design metabolic pathways to produce terpenoids in S. cerevisiae. Optimize pathways using input data enzyme activity and strain screening assays, -Omics experiments and fermentation processes Ability to work independently and see projects through to completion Construct designed strains using standard molecular cloning techniques including Gibson, USER or Golden Gate assembly or restriction-ligation cloning and targeted strain recombineering and gene integration methods Culture and evaluate constructed yeast strains using small-scale (plate and flask-scale) cultivations and assays. Thoroughly document project results and progress, and facilitate clear communication and technology transfer with the industrial partner Willingness to travel for occasional visits to Insempra in Munich. Possibility of relocation to industry partner for project continuation is a plus.Formal requirements:

Terms of employment

The starting salary is currently up to DKK 440.935 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 75.399). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
