Kongens Lyngby, Lyngby-Tårbæk Kommune, Denmark Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU) Full time

We are seeking a self-motivated postdoc to make a valuable contribution to our new project titled High-efficiency high-power laser beaming in-space systems based on SiC (RePowerSiC)', funded by EIC pathfinder challenge. As pioneers in the field of SiC optoelectronics, we anticipate that your involvement will significantly impact our research outcomes.
If you are in the process of establishing your career as a scientist and are seeking the optimal foundation to realize your dreams and ambitions, your search ends here.

At DTU Electro, you will pioneer advancements at the forefront of silicon carbide optoelectronics. We are actively seeking a highly self-motivated postdoc to make significant contributions to our ongoing research endeavors. This Postdoc position will be situated within the wide bandgap semiconductor photonics group, under the leadership of Associate Professor Haiyan Ou.

Silicon carbide (SiC) is swiftly emerging as a pivotal material platform for optoelectronics, owing to its exceptional optical and electrical properties—ranging from wide bandgap to coined high power density. As pioneers in this burgeoning field, we eagerly anticipate collaborating with you to further advance this captivating domain.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You will be in charge/contribute to the newly granted EIC path-finder challenge project 'High-efficiency high-power laser beaming in-space systems based on SiC (RePowerSiC)', whose goal is to achieve a novel ultra-efficient SiC-laser power converter for in-space energy transmission in the range of kW/cm2 with efficiencies higher than 80%, in close collaboration with other partners and group members working on material growth and device applications.

As Postdoc you are expected to

  • Design, fabricate, characterize, and optimize antireflection layer for SiC
  • Optimize the fabrication process to achieve low series resistance and high-efficiency SiC laser power converter
  • Build the experimental setup to characterize the efficiency of SiC laser power converter
  • Explore the high power density limit in SiC laser power converter theoretically and experimentally
  • Interact actively with other group members and European partners

In the selection of candidates, special consideration will be given to candidates with experience within one or several of the following topics:

  • Nano/micro fabrication
  • Experimental or theoretical photonics
  • Experimental or theoretical electronics
  • Semiconductor physics, or solid-state physics

as well as:

  • Interest in the attraction and the supervision of students
  • a proven track-record of relevant research.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
