
Postdoc in photonics integrated circuits for bioimaging

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoc to join our team and contribute to our efforts in developing integrated optical phased array (OPA) on silicon nitride integration platform for bioimaging.

You will be working at DTU Electro, in the Photonic Integrated Circuit based Systems (PICSys) group. The setting will be the cutting-edge laboratory for photonic integrated devices, and the access to one of the largest cleanroom facilities in European Universities. You will be working with a group of professionals in photonic integrated devices, optical phased array, optical communications, optical computing, electronic circuits design and FPGA programming.
This Postdoc position is funded by Novo Nordisk Foundation. As a participant of the project, you will become part of a team at DTU with expertise in design, simulation, nanofabrication, characterization, and application of PIC. The activities within the project will benefit from synergies with other projects in the group as well as with other activities in the department. The main supervisor will be Dr. Hao Hu, DTU Electro.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be developing integrated OPA on silicon nitride (SiN) platform for biomedical imaging. Your primary tasks will be:
- Design and fabricate optical phased array chip on SiN platform
- Design and fabricate on-chip calibration circuit for optical phased array to achieve arbitrary beam steering at high speed
- Develop integrated athermal OPA on SiN platform by incorporating titanium oxide (TiO2) with negative thermo-optic coefficient
- Characterize the integrated optical phased array with on-chip calibration functionality for solid-state optical beam steering
- Applying integrated OPAs for biomedical imaging applications
- Supervise BSc and MSc student projects, and be co-supervisor for PhD students
- Data analysis, writing of scientific articles and presentations at conferences and meetings.
- Participate in outreach activities, including social media updates and public events.
We will be looking for experience and expertise in one or more of the following subjects:
- Experience in integrated photonics.
- Experience in cleanroom work and nanofabrication of PIC.
- Experience in simulation tools such as Lumerical, COMSOL.
- Self-motivation in research and innovation.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with partners.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
- Experience in SiN integration platform.
- Experience in silicon photonics.
- Experience in design and characterization of OPA.
- Experience in PCB design and FPGA programming.
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The period of employment is 2 years. The starting date is flexible and preferred to be December 1st, 2024, or as soon as possible. The position is a full-time position.
