Professor in Chemical Thermodynamics and Phase Behavior
4 weeks ago
DTU Chemistry invites applications for a position as full professor in Chemical Thermodynamics and Phase Behavior. The position focuses on applying thermodynamics for experimental and theoretical studies of phase behavior critical to addressing major scientific and industrial challenges, especially in relation to the green transition such as CO2 storage and other sustainability initiatives.
Responsibilities and qualifications
We need a professor in Physical Chemistry to strengthen the department's research and education in chemical thermodynamics, in particular molecular thermodynamics and phase equilibrium in relation to decarbonization and sustainable utilization of energy resources. The professorship is a part of the section for Physical Chemistry and the professor is expected to interact closely with the other faculty members, as well as faculty from other DTU departments and other universities.
You will play a key role in:
- advancing thermodynamic modeling and algorithms for complex chemical and phase equilibria in CO2 capture and storage (CCS) and other high impact decarbonization efforts;
- leveraging quantum chemical tools or other theoretical insights to develop novel engineering modeling tools for application in both academia and industry;
- enhancing the understanding and characterization of complex phase behavior by using state-of-the-art tools in experimental thermodynamics;
- initiating, supervising, and communicating fundamental and applied research in the field of chemical thermodynamics;
- developing teaching and education within the fields of physical chemistry and chemical thermodynamics.
Your track record proves your ability to attract national and international funding, lead large-scale international research projects, and publish and disseminate research at a high international level. You are a dedicated and experienced teacher for whom the education of DTU's students is a key responsibility. You are keen on further developing collaboration with national and international research institutes and industries through collaborative projects to strengthen and develop chemical thermodynamics in Denmark.
You will get a rewarding and challenging position in an international environment, collaborating and networking with research colleagues from all over the world. The position offers academic freedom, tempered by responsibility, in an ambitious department with recognized academic excellence, innovation, and education within advanced and applied chemistry.
You have gained international recognition within the research field. You are able to combine high-level research and publication activity with the exploitation of research results in interaction with industry.
We are among the internationally leading departments of chemistry within several topics under the main areas: physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and organic chemistry. We are responsible for research-based teaching at the BSc, MSc, and PhD level. We actively support career paths through talent management, and we culture internal collaboration between scientists and scientific disciplines. The Department has 180 employees including presently 23 faculty members.
You are expected to take a leading role in teaching at the BEng, BSc, MSc, and PhD levels.
DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:
- Documented experience and quality of teaching and curriculum development
- Research impact and experience, funding track record and research vision
- International impact and experience
- Societal impact
- Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
- Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
- Communication skills
Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
