Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark E Conomic Full time

Do you thrive on empowering teams to build scalable, beautifully designed and impactful systems? As an Engineering Manager at e-conomic, you will guide the Design System and Frontend teams to deliver user experiences that matter. Through your team's talent and collaboration, you'll shape tools used by hundreds of thousands of businesses across Denmark, ensuring high-quality design and seamless functionality.

Role Scope & Impact

As Engineering Manager, you'll lead our Design System and Frontend teams, with a key focus on growing and developing your people. You'll work closely with UX and PMs to ensure your teams deliver the critical core services to enable all product teams to deliver value for our 220,000+ customers.

Your role is to create an environment where your team thrives through open communication, regular feedback, and clear goal-setting. You'll support their professional growth, help them navigate challenges, and make sure they have the space to do their best work. At the same time, you'll drive technical strategy and advocate for consistency and standards across the organization, and optimize output of the teams.

What You'll Do Day-to-Day

You'll be reporting to our Head of Engineering, Thomas Hector , whois looking for the right person to help shape and strengthen his teams. We'll walk you through the organizational setup later in the process so you get a clear sense of where you fit in and the impact you'll have.
In the next section, you'll learn more about your daily tasks, but don't expect a rigid checklist. You'll have plenty of room to shape your own workday and influence how we build and grow together.
Leadership and Development:

  • Provide coaching, feedback, transparency and regular 1:1s to support team growth and career development.

  • Identify and implement areas for improvement to elevate team performance.

  • Be part of the engineering management group, driving engineering culture.

Strategic Direction:

  • Define success for the teams, aligning their goals with organizational objectives.

  • Partner with the PM and Lead UX Designer as part of a product trio, to lead the process for annual and quarterly planning and support the company strategy

Collaboration:

  • Advocate for consistency in design systems and development standards across the organization.

  • Build strong relationships with peers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.

Operational Excellence:

  • Oversee sprint planning, resource allocation, and project management.

  • Address technical debt and blockers to maintain reliability and system health.

About the Product Department

You will be joining our development organization Products (R&D) with +180 employees, primarily located in Denmark, Romania and Portugal, working with technologies and platforms like C#, React, MS-SQL, Kubernetes and other CNCF technologies. We continuously explore tools that enhance our development. The product department is a diverse group of +20 nationalities, including Developers, SREs, Product Managers, UX Designers and so on.

Your Teams

The Design System team plays a crucial role in e-conomic by ensuring a cohesive visual design and user experience across the product. Their product, Taco, provides the components, code, behaviors, and patterns that enable product teams to build faster while continuously evolving design and UX.

  • The team consists of four engineers who will be your direct reports, along with two UX professionals and one Product Manager, who report to their respective leaders within the Products organization.

  • The team collaborates closely with the Operational Trio for short-term execution and the Strategic Trio for long-term vision.

  • As a core service in e-conomic, the Design System has many stakeholders, making this role critical to its success.

The Frontend team connects product frontend development and engineering by providing a frontend platform that enables our product teams to build consistent and seamless user experiences.

  • The team consists of three engineers, including a team lead.

  • They drive best practices for frontend development and cross-functional integration.

Your skills and experience

While a solid understanding of frontend technologies and design systems is valuable, what we value most is your commitment to supporting your team and helping them thrive. Relevant technical knowledge is a plus, but not essential, which is why we've listed team-focused experience first.

  • Proven success in leading and developing engineers, managing multi-disciplinary teams, and inspiring a shared vision.

  • Inspiring stakeholder management skills and a non-hierarchical worldview.

  • Commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion and psychological safety.

  • Ability to define long-term goals, set clear expectations, and align efforts with overarching business strategies.

  • Solid understanding of frontend technologies, design systems, and platform architecture.

In addition to the above, the following technical skills are a plus:

  • Hands-on experience with accessibility, documentation, and scalability.

  • Familiarity with React, Typescript, Tailwind or other modern frontend technologies.

  • Experience in driving technical standards and consistency in large organizations.
