Organic Chemist, Late-Stage Process Development

Category: Research

Location: Bagsværd, Capital Region of Denmark, DK

Are you a science-driven person with a deeply rooted interest in organic chemistry and experience from drug substance process development or Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing? Do you want to be part of a dynamic area and impact the future directions for the development of manufacturing processes in a company with a growing focus on chemistry? Are you looking for a dynamic working environment on the technological forefront, where you will develop your scientific expertise and personal skills in close collaboration with highly talented colleagues and external partners?

If yes, we have a rare opportunity for you to join our team of dedicated chemists and technicians in our Late-Stage Chemical Process Development team as an Organic Synthesis Chemist. Come join us in a rapidly developing organisation. Apply today

The position

This position lies within our laboratory-based chemical development teams. We support projects from Phase III to commercial manufacturing in close collaboration with multiple stakeholders including discovery teams, analysis departments, pilot facilities, and external partners. In our team you will find highly skilled and motivated colleagues who continuously challenge themselves in developing our process. We have a vibrant social connection and always try to help each other.

Your main objectives will be to:

  1. Use your strong practical skills within organic chemistry for process development, characterisation, and manufacture of APIs and chemical intermediates in our laboratories.
  2. Apply your teamworking abilities to effectively progress our projects with strong verbal and written communication across the organisation.
  3. Balance internal and external laboratory activities aiming to develop robust and scalable processes, suitable for manufacture of APIs and related compounds.
  4. Generate relevant technical documentation in development reports for use in later filings and technology transfers from laboratory to large-scale manufacturing.

Your workplace is in Bagsværd (Denmark), situated at the centre of an expanding chemistry hub, placing us in an inspiring environment near our key stakeholders, e.g. other CMC development teams as well as chemistry, fermentation and purification pilots.

Qualifications

You hold a PhD (or equivalent) within synthetic organic chemistry. Furthermore, the main qualifications are as follows:

  1. Professional experience with drug development and process chemistry from the pharmaceutical industry, preferably late-stage process development.
  2. State-of-the-art knowledge about small molecule and/or peptide-protein chemistry.
  3. Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across disciplines in drug development and with external partners.
  4. You are a formidable team player, but also possess the ability to drive complex development projects forward independently.
  5. Fluency in written and spoken English.
  6. Previous work with Contract Research Organisations or Contract Manufacturing Organisations will be considered an advantage.
  7. Knowledge about DoE, QbD and regulatory guidelines.

As a person you are proactive, results-oriented and take pride in delivering on time. You communicate your results effectively, share your knowledge openly, and motivate your colleagues with a positive, forthcoming attitude.

In return, we offer an exciting position where you will be at the vanguard of drug development, working with a diverse set of chemical modalities. You will become part of an international and dynamic team with an informal working environment, a strong culture of cross-functional collaboration and a focus on well-being and flexibility in workplace and working hours.

About the area

As part of Novo Nordisk PSQIT organisation, Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) Development & Scaling makes a real difference for patients with chronic diseases across the world. We develop, manufacture and distribute drug candidates for clinical trials and have a strong culture with a "can do" mind-set.

In Chemical Development, we are responsible for developing the synthetic processes required to produce the active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for Novo Nordisk's new and innovative product portfolio. These processes encompass chemical modification of recombinantly-produced proteins, as well as chemical synthesis of peptides, oligonucleotides, small molecules and novel excipients. Our work spans various stages of development, from clinical trials to commercial manufacturing. As we expand into more synthetic API production platforms, Chemical Development is becoming an increasingly significant growth area for Novo Nordisk.

The Chemical Development area currently consists of 90+ chemists and laboratory technicians, and we have access to state-of-the-art chemistry laboratory facilities in Bagsværd (DK) and offices in Boston (USA). Our facilities enable us to support various types of work, including isotope chemistry, scale-up productions, and standard process development.

Working at Novo Nordisk

We're a dynamic company in an even more dynamic industry, and we know that what got us to where we are today is not necessarily what will make us successful in the future. We embrace the spirit of experimentation, striving for excellence without fixating on perfection. We never shy away from opportunities to develop, we seize them. From research and development, through to manufacturing, marketing and sales – we're all working to move the needle on patient care.
